That's pretty cool. I wonder what they're going to do when they're 'adapting it for West End audiences,' though. Hmm...

Well, the show contains a lot of 'American' things, like the Wizard's songs and movie references, that might not be as mainstream overseas.

The Wizard of Oz is not in European culture as much as it is in American culture, so I agree that the changes may be in the references.

Well, I figured they'd have to make it British for London audiences, but I'm curious if it'd be anything major. I don't know about the rest of Europe, but from what my friend's told me the Wizard of Oz is pretty popular in Germany.

I doubt it would be major changes. They changed a few things when Chitty came to Broadway because of it being an American audience but since I haven't seen it in London I don't know exactly what was changed. I think they added a line about how Americans don't really speak English and when the audience booed they said it got cold. I'd think it would just be little things. I read somewhere that they show Chitty around the holidays in England like the U.S shows The Wizard of Oz. It's not that it isn't popular or unknown, it's just how much it is in the culture, like with quotes from the movie in our daily lives.

Hmm, true! Now I'm totally interested. I'd research European Wizard of Oz cultural influences, but I don't know where to start..

That's interesting....I guess you have a point about "The (Wonderful) Wizard of Oz" being part of our culture as a country. Last time I was in DC, the Library of Congress had a whole exhibit on L. Frank Baum and the Oz books.

Cool! I know family friends that live in London, and D and I have gotten them obsessed with Wicked. That's great that the musical is going to be able to reach other people.
