I have never seen Wicked and I am going to but I do not want to know a lot about what happens in the show. Does the book tell me a lot of what will happen?

The book and the show are very, very, very, very, very, very different. There are some elements of the plot that follow each other, but if you read the book and then go and see the musical, you will still be extremely stunned by the ending, and a number of plot points. Just be prepared, the book may not be exactly what you expect it to. It's an adult book, it explores very dark themes. It's not simply a retelling of the Wizard of Oz, because that was a children's book. Just so you're prepared! But, to go back to the topic, I don't think reading the book will spoil the show for you, because they're so different and the musical changes the ending significantly. Kat.

Just be prepared, the book may not be exactly what you expect it to. It's an adult book, it explores very dark themes. And there are quite a few rather...*ahem* dirrty (notice the two Rs) escapades that Elphaba partakes in. I was caught completely off guard by the naughtiness. I dont know, Gregory Maguire doesn't seem like he'd write so explicetly. Not that I know him, it's just he doesn't look the part. Anyway, back on topic. The musical is very loosely based on the novel -- same characters, settings, etc and some of the plot -- but the musical is a lot more family oriented. I mean, they couldn't have Elphie and Fiyero doin' the duty on stage. It's not Avenue Q, after all
