hey everyone... cho is gonna ask another (probably dumb) question. hehe... the weird title is so that people would read it.. hehe... anyway.. i just finally was able to read the "wicked" script... and to my surprise (i was really, genuinely surprised) * that elphaba didn't melt at all!! *wow... that was a twist. so... did that happen in the book too? thanks for putting up with all my questions.... hehehe. ~Cho <>< Please black out spoilers. Thank you ~ the BoZ

Nope; the book's pretty adherent to the original WoZ business. I prefer the musicalverse myself, but the novel's definitely worth a read.

oops!! sorry about that!! No problem. We just try to keep somethings hidden for people who haven't seen the show. Though if they are on this forum or others, they probably have already been spoiled. Hehe

I love the ending of the book, though. Where its like, "And has she ever come out?" "Not yet." (Sorry if i got the quote wrong.)

It took me a couple of readings to realize that was actually part of the story in the first place, but it was such a fitting ending!

I read the script before I read the book, too, and I was definitely surprised by how it ended. But, as much as I adore Elphaba, I prefer the book's ending over the "happy ending".

But, as much as I adore Elphaba, I prefer the book's ending over the "happy ending". Ditto. The book's ending keeps the gloomy, dark atmosphere, and it keeps Baum's ending.

Yeah, if the book had a happy ending, it would really ruin that great dark mood it had been building on all the way up to the end.
I love dark moods...hehe.

Well, I agree that the book ending makes sense. The book is much darker throughout and derserves to have an ending that follows the same course. The musical, however, though it touches upon many of the same points, is lighter and deserves to have that kind of ending. It works each way.

Yeah, that's true. I guess I just like the darker tone of the book altogether. To me, the inevitable ending we all know is coming is a main point of the story. But, I respect the book and musical as separate universes.

Agreed. Technically, though, the musical keeps Baum's ending, because Baum never shows what happened to the Witch post-melting...

Yeah, I like the book actually better than the musical. I mean I LOVE the musical, but the book just has so much more to it.

The book has a deeper plot and more details than the musical, but I guess you couldn't put all that in a musical....

Not to mention WAY more characters and details that you really can't convey in that format, like the religious and social complexities. If they were to make a movie of the whole fandom, though, I think it'd work best if they did the musicalverse and filled in plot holes (like Elphaba's childhood) with stuff from the book.
