*sighs and goes to find her old NKB tapes*
My Kazaa died... I'll try to find a way to upload some songs.
How scary is that I'm pretty sure there is a Joey doll somewhere in my basement?

Haha Cate, bring it to the show when Joey's in it! Maybe he'll sign it for you... or maybe he'll just get scared and run away?! Llam. But lets not think about that... when he replaces Norbert *cries hysterically*

Joey was my favorite new kid. I was trying to explain this to my "adopted" (long story) little sister. I said to her, "You know how you love Aaron Carter? And she said yes. And I said, and you know how Aaron's big brother Nick was in the backstreet boys? and She said yes. So I explained it that Joey was like the Nick of the New Kids. He was very popular and many many people loved him.
Popular Joey NKOTB songs: probably the most famous Joey song, "Please don't go girl" I've got the tape somewhere, I'm having him sign that when I go. He also had a hit on his own a few years ago, with the song Stay The Same.
Yes, I was an NKOTB freak!

I don't mean to be NLB obssessed , but I think that Joey wouldn't be able to keep up the role of Fiyero...his voice [from what I hear from his latest albums] is a bit grittier and I just had to shut it off. I hope you know what I mean lol...I am horrible at explaining things. He has a good voice, but is it Broadway?? Go on Amazon.com and listen to his sound clips.

Rereading this thread, I think I can provide a way for everyone to figure out how he sounds singing a musical. In his bio on the Wicked website it says he was in the movie version of The Fantasticks. He does sing pretty well in it. And guess what? Joel Grey is in that too. Coincidence?

Listening to some audio clips of him on Amazon.com right now... Hmm. Not bad. Not bad at all!
Unfortunately, I was either not "cool" or not quite old enough to be in to New Kids on the Block. I think I was under five years old when they were really popular. However, I DO remember the next door neighbor, (who was about 4 years older than me) being completely obsessed. She had the dolls... the cassette tapes... even a balancing ball thing (they looked like Saturn.. anyone remember them??) with the New Kids logo on it.

I vaguely remember NKOTB, becuz my older sister was obsessed with them. I was just a wee tot, tho, so I don't remember (or know) much about them. Just that Joey was the most popular.

I'm old enough to have a Joey doll - wow that dates me- and I'm thinking of making him a little yero costume!
The green one... with the lil gold bands.... awww.
As it is, though... I'm still sighing over norbert.

The thing about Joey is that he sounds very different from what he sounds like on his CDs. He grew up doing theatre, so this isn't very new to him. To help things along though... He was in "Tick Tick Boom" in the role originated in New York by Adam Pascal and their voices are somewhat similar. He's also a very very big power singer. He has a lot of power in his lungs and he knows how to use it to the best of his ability. As great as Norbert will always be, Joey does a fantastic job of taking over the role. The audience this past Wednesday night loved him. He's not perfect though and hopefully with time, he'll get better. The only real big problem is the fact that both he and Idina are power singers, so they haven't found their middle ground for ALAYM yet. Other than that, being a "pop star" has helped a lot because you can barely hear him breathe during DTL despite all the dancing. I think I love Joey most because he's so grateful for the fans that wait for him and that he got a chance like this again.

If anyone's interested... in the Arts and Leisure section of the NY Times (todays) there's an interview with Joey Mac and Joey Fatone about their transition from pop stars to B'way... check it out! And there's a hot picture of J-mac as Fiyero! ;D
