I just bought a ticket to see Hairspray in Toronto in May. Has anyone here seen it? The only song I've heard is Can't Stop the Beat and I really liked it, but I don't really know if it's my kinda thing. Is it good?

OOhhh...same question. When I go see Wicked in June, I also bought tickets for Hairspray. Is it good?

Yes it really is! I've seen the tour and most of the cast is excelent...just not teh Edna or teh Velma...but everybody else...as on Broadway...I haven't seen it for a while but I'm sure it's still amazing!

I've never seen it on tour or in Toronto, but I've seen it on Broadway twice (first time with Laura Bell Bundy!). I love it so much. It's SO funny and the songs are great.

I'm seeing it with school (the same school that I saw Wicked with), so I'm hoping it's great. The seats are considerably better then SECONDTOLASTROW-OFFTOTHESIDE Mez at the Gershwin, since we paid more, but that's not what I'm worried about. I'm worried that I won't like the show. I've only seen one Bway show I didn't like and that was Footloose. If Hairspray is anything like it, I'll...I might cry. But Jeni and Nikki love it, so I'm not worried. -gyps

Gypsy, "Hairspray" is NOTHING like "Footloose." It's definitely much, much, much, much better. I've sat in Orch and Mez seats for "Hairspray" and they're both excellent. Have fun!

You know I have the Original Cast Recording and I really don't care for it that much. I don't know, I didn't really like the movie either. It's the same for me with The Producers. I'm pretty sure that since I hated the movie, I'll loathe the show so I don't waste my money on tickets.

if you're seeing the tour, it's AMAZING. i mean, mind-blowing, completely. There are three parts i found hilarious: 1) Penny during the dance (especially when she goes behind the chalkboard--look for it) 2) Amber mispronouncing "daughter" 3) Amber hiding under the throne during You Can't Stop the Beat
watch for those, they made me laugh my head off

Hairspray is so good! I saw the original cast and you can't judge the show based on the recording. It's never the same (think Wicked, hmm?) And never judge it based on the movie. Both The Producers and Hairspray on the stage are better than the movie, so I recommend them. Believe me, Hairspray is worth it. It was my first Broadway show and I look forward to seeing it again.

You know I have the Original Cast Recording and I really don't care for it that much. But the original cast isn't there anymore, so it doesn't matter. Besides, I've heard the new girl sing and she sounds so much better than Melissa Jaret Winokur, not as pinched. I liked the show, thought it was funny. Definately better than the movie, too.

Yes Hairspray is an excellent show! I haven't seen it with the new cast and me being a HUGE Kerry Butler fan and watching the new Penny on a performance on TV I wasn't very happy but I'm sure the new everyone else is excellent! I'm interested in seeing Kathy Brier's interpretation of Tracy after watching her on Broadway on Broadway.

Kathy Brier isn't in it anymore, unfortunately. But she was awesome! She was born to play Tracy. And Richard Blake? DSO that man is just....ah, I love him! Actually the cast that I saw in February was much better than the OBC. They were all awesome!

Hee hee just kidding, love ya Sa ) I love you too! I'm just very picky about my shows, that's all. That and I harbor an intense dislike for Marissa Jaret Winoker, she grates on my last nerve. She bothered me ever since Broadway on Broadway when she cohosted with Joey Fatone. And Kathy Brier is on One Life To Live and I hated her character...so the actresses that play Tracy annoy me. And the show in general seems corny, but lets remember that I said the same thing about Wicked when I first heard... Sa

The actress doing Tracy on tour is coming to Broadway as Tracy (can't remember her name at the moment). I saw a clip from an article in the Denver Post (online, of course) and she was amazing. I hope I get to see her. She's starting when Michael McKean takes over the role of Edna.
