Soooo not my fault. My favorite character is Elphaba. Elphaba is cool. She is green. Green is a pretty color. Elphaba is pretty. Nice job keepin it on topic there, Caitlinda Yeah Elphie rocks. So does Boq. I've always loved Boq because he's so pathetic that it's endearing

Caitlinda- "It's a terrible thing to have a house dropped on you...but accidents do happen!" Nessarose and Elphaba are my favorite characters. Nessa because I can identify with her (at least, musical Nessa....book Nessa kinda scares me ) and Elphie because.....well, because she's Elphie ;D ~~~Amy~~~

Heh, it's more of the religious fanatical part that kinda freaks me out (and when she starts losing it as governor and does the thing with the ax) but the "weeble wobble" thing is a tad unnerving. I always picture the puppet guys from Wiz-O-Mania but in wheelchairs........ ~~~Amy~~~

I don't know why, I guess it's cause I love Nessa and her evil-ness is sorta all Boq's fault, in a way. I left the theatre saying to my mom about Boq "Why couldn't he have just PRETENDED to like her?"

Yeah...I didn't know who to feel worse for, Boq or Nessa. I mean, you'd think Boq would understand that this girl is pining for him the same way he was for Galinda. Silly boys...*shakes head*
Morrible is definately a villian you love to hate though.

Oh I haven't seen musical Boq yet. When I said I liked Boq I meant book Boq. I kinda assumed they'd be similar. Guess with all the other changes, Boq got changed too. Shoulda guessed...

Yeah Boq is pretty different in the show than in the book. He's still awesome though. I love musical Boq!

I agree. He's more a part of the book, but I think the writers worked him wonderfully into the musical. I like Musical Boq better, mostly because of the turmoil he causes! Yay for trouble! Llam!

I think Elphaba's one of the most changed from the book. I can't make any specifics, since Gregory Maguire does wonders with her character, but Book-Elphie is *VERY* far off from play-Elphie....only I still love play-Elphie, don't get me wrong. -gyps

I agree, she is completely changed from the book to the musical. I like them both, maybe the musical one a bit more...cuz we can see the wonderful attitude that Idina puts into it. If it weren't Idina, I don't really know...I think I like the bond between Glinda and Elphie in the musical more. Glinda wasn't really that much of a principal character in the book.

The same basic drive is there, the same devotion to Nessa... I think it's the circumstances around her that cause the changes between book Elphie and play Elphie. Like as an AU. Elphaba....is just a great character.

But what of her whole quest for forgiveness, losing her mind? I just thought in the book she was...a faster moving charachter, if I can actually say that without sounding like a total jerk. I just thought she was more intense, more like a spring wound up and ready to burst...and burst it does. -gyps

I just thought she was more intense, more like a spring wound up and ready to burst...and burst it does. -gyps The quest for forgiveness comes out of circumstances left out of the play. However, this is culminated in the play with the line "I ask forgiveness for the things I've done you blame me for." Loosing her mind comes out of those same circumstances that were left out of the show. But both book Elphie and play Elphie have the same type of self-protection style...sarcasm and bluntness. "Do I have something in my teeth? Okay, let's get this over with. No, I'm not seasick. Yes, I've always been green. No, I didn't eat grass as a child..." vs. the question of elven blood in the book to which she responds "What a novel idea. If there were, I suppose my limbs would be as brittle as uncooked pasta and come apart with the slightest of preasure. Would you care to apply some force? Do, I beg you so we can settle this question for once, for all." I believe Elphie's nature is the same, but it is the nurture or circumstances that cause the changes.
