i'm a total theatre nerd and we've been noticing that the theatre kids at our school tend to eat a lot more. i mean..we aren't obese or anything..we just have a ton of parties with lots of food! and we enjoy it! lol.. any of you have quirky things within your groups?? just curious...

Um... a weekly meeting. We all meet up at someone's house (usually mine) and discuss theatre. For an hour we'll focus on one show, saying what we like and don't like about it. And the impact it's had on our lives. And sometimes it takes two or three hours for some shows. *Cough* "Wicked" *Cough* Then, we'll decide if we want to see it as a group. And if the majority says yes, we do. It's actually a lot of fun.
We also have SOOOO many inside jokes.

i seriously no not think me and my friends, especially when we're doing a show, can go like, 5 minutes w/o either: A) Mentioning a memorable event during a past show or B) Screaming out a random inside joke and cracking up
...oh we eat a lot too! haha

wow.... so my group of friends ins't so out there? thats comforting! We also talk a lot about shows, and we eat a lot to.... but you need to be excepted into our group..... initiation i guess. In order to be in the group, you need to tell one, clean joke that makes everyone in the room laugh. and it has to be like spur of the moment, nothing planed out.... we may be slightly exclusive, but the elders (senoirs) beleive that any good drama person can and sould be able to think on their feet.... so even though you do kinda need to be accepted, it is a lot of fun.... and everybody gets in. we'er really not that mean, its just that if u make it seem like getting into the group is a big deal, everyone is a lot more excited, enthusiastic, and nicer because it is looked upon as a privillage... even though everyone gets in. We just have sooooo much fun together.... and needless to say, many inside jokes. I think a close knit theater compony/group has better productions because everyone is having fun. I mean we get the stage crew, the dancers, the singers, the actors, and the pit to work together in one colaboration..... how can we not get close?

Hehe! My theatre company has a bunch! 1) Relate back to our lives by shows. (Basically, our life is a KOS show calendar. For example. My friend says: Wow! I remember three years ago when we had a sleepover! I say: (As do the rest of my theatre comp) Was it during Joseph or Annie? 2) Have a tendency to be weird. We make up random songs, are definitely the life of the party (all those bat mitzvahs), worship random animals and food, you get the idea... 3) Tend to get diners to not invite us back after our shows...long story! (Lots of them actually!) 4) Steal forks! (Another long story!) And oh so many more! Haha.

llam!! GREAT topic idea!!
Throughout high school and my community theater shows, we have several time-honored traditions:
1) The aforementioned eating out after performances. Though we haven't been kicked out of any particular diner, we have a couple that have "politely requested" we go elsewhere. Our favorite spot to go these days is Applebees. ;D 2) Charting our lives by shows. Also, it's fun to look at the wardrobe different people are given and recognize it from other shows. AKA- The dress this one girl is wearing is what a good friend of mine wore when I was a Junior in high school. 3) The power circle before a show. It's nothing fancy- the director says a few words and then she squeezes the hand of the person next to her.. who squeezes the hand of the person next to him... who squeezes the hand of the person next to him... and so on until it gets back to the director. Sounds corny, but it really DOES feel like the energy passes through everyone!! 4) Also before a show we have this "shake it out" routine with each limb- shaking each one up to an eight count, then to a four count, then to a two count, then a big scream. ENERGIZER!

for the shows ive been in
1)always do the same warmups....for every show.. i love them... 2) b4 every show.. the guys do this " guy thing" and they think we dont know what it is.. but its somethin to do with being in a circle...sayin some stuff and gargling scope?? idk.. for sure..... and the girls do the girl thing.. 3) oooohhh the memories of going to the diner after shows.. oh man... seeing who can eat the most saltines in a minute....or making jelly towers... annd of course theres cast parties.. 4) with our school ( Ward Melville) .. were called the ward melville players... newho.. we say "Steak and eggs" cause a lloong time ago. someone said break a leg.. and they actually did.. and the person was a lead.. sooo we say steak and eggs now.. 5) we tell what time of the year it is.. by what show were on ( we do 8 shows a year) like EOC ( evening of comedy.. up it must be the end of the year.. llam
i love all the laughing and good times i have with them everyday is an adventure with theatre people

Theater kids in my school tend to be jerks, and except for Jeni, Amanda, Michele, Nikki, and about 2 other people, I really don't like them at all. They're rude and snobby and think they're better then anyone else. If someone calls me a "theater/drama kid" at my school, I take it as an insult, and usually reply with "But I'm not a b**ch!" -gyps

Yay, a theatre thread!
Basically everyone I'm friends with is into theatre. It's my life, so I need people who can deal with that and who are similar, because it gives us really good chemistry. Besides, when we all get cast in a show, we never have stage chemistry problems. Me and my boyfriend once were cast as a daughter and father for a drama competition play, and we won awards for our chemistry! (Shocker!)
At my high school, we have this thing where, before the show, we "pass the magic around", which is when our director cups her hands and pretends she's holding "magic", and she passes it to a cast member, who in turn passes it on and on and so on, until we all have a little bit of it. After the show, we run offstage clapping, and we run into our director's classroom and stand on the chairs and sing "Lean On Me" and scream really loud. After our high school shows, the seniors pick where we go, and for some reason we usually end up at Bickford's.
In a theatre company I used to work with, once the curtain fell after all of our shows, we did "Hava Navita" (sp? It's a Jewish song) and jumped around and clapped and stuff. Then we would all go out to Friendly's or Ground Round and do sugar shots and lick the windows and flirt with the waitstaff, who wanted to kill us for bringing sixty people to their restaurant at 11:30 at night.
We all have a TON of inside jokes, and stories about things that only theatre people find funny. As typical theatre children who do not believe in personal space (it's part of that whole "Actors are a family" thing), we're always snuggling with each other, on each other's laps, having huge sleepovers, spontaneously kissing each other's noses and other weird things like that...lots of hugs and love.
Every time we go out we all leave our makeup and hair done, which is fun to see the looks you can get from people. And we all eat a lot, too...all of the shows I've been in recently have had a Friday night show, Saturday night matinee and night show, and a Sunday matinee...before almost every show, practically EVERYONE is eating fast food, which is so gross, but we sweat it off onstage, LLAM.
Plenty of weird happenings, such as sketchy comments from directors (why do they always have to point out sexual situations?), musical directors who have conducted by waving their middle fingers at us and told us they were "coke addicts (as Chris told us, "Not THAT kind of coke!"), and random times where people forget their lines and improv the scenes during rehearsals, which makes for a lot of fun inside jokes.
AAH I LOVE YOU THEATRE PEOPLE!

In my high school, freshmen can't be in the fall comedy, so sophomores are the youngest. But they RARELY get in the fall shows, because this year's cast was only 12 people. Last year it was only 8, I think. Anyways, I was the ONLY sophomore girl that got into this year's comedy, because I was a GOOD ACTRESS. Yet I still got ignored, isolated and treated like crap, even by the other sophomores. I guess in school drama, acting and talent don't really mean you deserve to be treated like a human being. -gyps
