With one group we always go out to eat after the first Saturday performance, usually at Cheddars.
The youth theater group I perform with does what we call Pinkies. Everyone in the cast and crew stands in a circle and locks pinkies - you cross arms right over left and then link your pinkies. Then we have a chant we say:
"Whether the weather be cold Or whether the weather be hot We'll be together whatever the weather Whether we like it or not."
It takes new-comers forever to learn. What we do is bounce our arms up and down and then after each phrase with do a little hop. We repeat it 3 times, each time getting louder.
If I think of another, I'll post...

We're very dramatic and emotional, like we're PMS-ing all the time. We randomly burst into song and dance or a monolgue whenever and wherever we feel like it.

My HS Play and Musicla has a tradition, the night of the second to last show we go Pizza Hut. So everytime one of the actors/actresses gets frustrated they yell "ALRIGHT Were going to Pizza hut!" It always confuses the poor Freshmen and Juniors, and the newbie Techs are beyond lost....

My theater-based friends crowd always crashes at someone's house during vacations (most of the group's at college now) and watches movies until after we can't keep our eyes open anymore. Most of the other stuff stems from traditions of my school's drama department-- eating at the Olive Garden every closing night (where we buy a 'birthday' cake for some unsuspecting guy), doing the mantra before a show, etc. The drama department at my school's pretty big, and because it's a private school we have kids grades 7-12 all in the same performance. Our recent show, Fame, had about 100 students involved, between cast and crew. I've always adored the group, though-- when I really had fitting-in issues in middle school, I really found my niche with the drama folks. I'm not much of a singer, dancer, or actress, but I love doing it, and these are some of the nicest people I know

i'm a total theatre nerd and we've been noticing that the theatre kids at our school tend to eat a lot more. i mean..we aren't obese or anything..we just have a ton of parties with lots of food! and we enjoy it! lol.. any of you have quirky things within your groups?? just curious... Wow, I'm kinda late on this, but I have an answer for why theatre kids eat more. Two words: TECH WEEK! My friends and I invent foods/drinks due to the need for energy. A personal favorite is Dr. Dew. It's a combination of Dr. Pepper, Mountain Dew, and Pixie Stix. It sounds revolting, but it can keep you awake for hours. We have even written "Caffeine: The Musical". (Some of the songs include "Sugarhigh Tonight" (Comedy Tonight), "As Long As There's Caffeine" (As Long as He Needs Me), and "Hyperland" (Munchkinland), along with a full monologue about Mountain Dew.) It's probably really stupid, but like I said, it was written during tech week to keep us alive!!

Yeah. We tend to poke the theater kids at our school because of how much fatter they are from us. We are appalled at their obvious obesity. I'm just joking. But not really. I'm not a "theatre kid", but am in a play because of my *charm* and *brilliance*. My foray into theatre taught me so much that I had to compile a list: 1) Everyone flirts with each other. We are all probably banging. In a massive orgy. 2) They are actually human. No, seriously. All right then, half human. 3) They aren't all gay. 4) They have to pay for the "free" food they get at shows. 5) Even though they are strange, some actually have no depth to themselves at all. Nothing. Zilch beyond the whiny teenage angst. 6) 1 out of 3 billion students actually make it big in Hollywood. 1200 out of 3 billion students make it big in the porn industry.

You know, there are very few, if any, gay kids in my school's theatre department, but a couple of the girls love pretending to be lesbians, and last year when we had teachers playing the adults in Footloose, one of the goofier ones (who played the preacher, of all people) and the you-have-to-know-him-to-be-able-to-explain-him guys would stand backstage and mouth "Almost Paradise" while the stars were singing onstage. 'Twas hilarity. People did that with "Love Scene" for Fame this year, too, but without the mock-gay undertones. Which would've been really funny.
As for the massive orgy part, we achieved the level of MASSIVE group hug during the strike for Fame. And during A Midsummer Night's Dream last year, there were like five couples having fun at everyone else's appetites and a few more would-be pairings doing the same. Somehow, that was the only show where that was really a big deal. But seriously, imagine watching Pyramus and Thisbe while you've got a direct sight line to a spot where the sketchiest backstage master ever is all over a sophomore...
And we do get free food!

Ha...we dare each other to do things.JWT kids are weird and crazy! -All the kids in the Christmas season show go see the latest Harry Potter movie. -We always eat at the same place while rehearsals are go on(during lunch break). -We all have a strange attraction to popular book series and Japanese cartoon/anime stuff(Yu-Gi-Oh,for example)(refer to #1 for more). -We have burping contests, and the same person always wins (the burp queen,Victoria/Buferd(nickname)!). -We have opposite nicknames (Mine's Michael A or Michael,an opposite of Michaela!).

Well, we read a lot more, really it's kind of funny in a way. We see a ton of broadway shows, a ton! And at my school 'Theatre' is broken down into three groups, Dance, Vocal Music, and Drama. We also stay after school a lot more...

Well, let's see...I've only done three shows at my highschool, but I've been in over thirty in my community theatre, where most of my friends are in their twenties.
What we do...hmmm...
1) Heads-shoulders-knees-and-toes, but we make up other random things. EX: Heads-ankles-arms-and-butt
2) Bigger-better-faster-more
3) circle-time, where we pass energy and talk about the performance of the night/weekend before and how to improve
4) Whatever the show is, we chant it's name. EX: Go, go, Joe!
5) afterwards we usually go out to a Chinese place or to Uno's. Last show I was in, we went to this Mexican place after the matinee, which was fun because my best friend/cousin came with me and she got to hang out with all of my gay, twenty-year-old, guy friends who, you know, have the tendency to act like teenaged girls, so we had a blast.
...I think that's about it. We usually hold hands and pray at my high school, but that's because we're a Catholic school.

Alright, my extensive "foray into theater kids" revised: 1) Alright, so some food is free. 2) Everyone does have sex backstage. Or at least at this one. New tradition. Take it from the master. 3) Actually, theatre kids at my school hardly read at all. Hmm. Go figure. 4) We rocked. Everyone told us so. And we knew it. 6) Being in a play is one of the most terrific experiences ever. It's right next to "Watching a Broadway show" and "Sex" and "Beer".

I need to add that: -They are all short(yes including me). -Most of the Youth Company is between 8-10. -You're usually a lot taller than some of the kids (my 'little brother' Jackson (soul brother!) is a lot shorter than me...he's 9).
Ha....I'm a vase (pronounced VOZ,not VAYSE!) in "Beauty And The Beast"...oh joy!

Not sure if this counts as a theater kid quirk, but if our show's on Broadway we go see it. We did it for Little Shop of Horrors last year, and we even got to stay after the show and ask the cast questions. Oh yes, and we have this cute tradition, paper plate awards...pretty much self explanatory. I got sweetest...they obviously don't know me. Whoever has the biggest house hosts the cast party, where we eat a lot of junk food and distribute said awards.
