I just bought the Wicked the Original Broadway Cast Recording , and love it!!

But i was looking at the Wicked musical site and i noticed that the actors are not all the same, can someone tell me who the offical actors are? the people on the cd or the site

Both. The cast has changed since the recording of the CD. The cast on the CD is the OBC, or Original Broadway Cast. Some members of that cast - most, in fact - have left and the parts they had are now played by different people.

The site has been changed. Some ensemble members might be left, and Carole Shelley (Madame Morrible), Michelle Federer (Nessarose), and William Youmans (Dr. Dillamond) are all still there from the Original Broadway Cast. However, there is a new Elphaba, Shoshana Bean, came on 1/11/05 offically as Elphaba. She was previously the standby. Jennifer Laura Thompson is now Glinda (replacing Kristin Chenoweth, who left July 18 of last year), along with many other cast memebers.

By the way, if you want to be nitpicky about it, Wicked is not a soundtrack. It is an Original Broadway Cast Recording (OBCR). Soundtracks are from movies. Sorry, pet peeve, because I'm extremily nitpicky.

why did the cast change out though, get tired or do every musicals change cast at soem point?

Most musicals with any staying power switch out their casts. Gives the audience a bit of variety, and plus, bigger names tend to have multiple projects. Take Idina Menzel, who left Wicked in January to make the Rent movie. Sometimes those in power stick in celebrities if they think the shows needs a bit of extra draw, like Drew Lachey and Joey Fatone in Rent or Michelle Williams and Toni Braxton (I think) in Aida.

Plus, look at some of the older shows over on Broadway. No offense meant whatsoever, but did you really think the same little starlet had been descending into the Phantom's lair for 17 years?

No, probably not. As far as I'm aware, there has only been one OBC member come back, and only in one show: Adam Pascal in Aida (though there probably have been others). Some will reappear in the show's tour at some point (Marissa Jaret Winokur did at one point for Hairspray, I think), but odds are they will not come back to Broadway with Wicked. They'll be back with new and other shows though!

P.S. Oops, forgot to say when they left. Kristin Chenoweth, Norbert Leo Butz, and Joel Gray left on July 18th of last year (though Joel Gray had been out for a while due to illness). Next major cast change was Christopher Fitzgerald (Boq), who left on January 2 of this year. On January 9th, Idina Menzel and Joey Macintire (I misspelled that. But he was Norbert's replacement for Fiyero) left the show (though Idina's last full preformance was the previous day: she fell through the trap door in the melting scene, causing her to break a rib in the matinee on the 8th. Shoshana Bean, current Elphaba and then standby, took over the evening preformance on the 8th and also did most of the show on the 9th. during the Finale scene at the end of Act II, though, Idina came out in a red track suit). The next cast change will be at some point in May (I don't remember the date. 19th, maybe?), when Jennifer Laura Thompson (current Glinda, replaced KC), Carole Shelley, Michelle Federer, and George Hearn (current Wizard, replaced Joel Gray) leave the show. Various ensemble have also left at some points, but those aren't as big a deal, so I don't know the dates of those cast changes.

wow thanks for all the info! very helpful! I wish i had gotten to see the original cast, i really like their voices but oh well i am sure the new cast is just as good!

I get to go see the show in October when they tour to Dallas, i am soo excited!
