I have a question about one of the parts in the book. It's the scene where Fiyero is entered for the first time.
So that Doctor Nikidik (Whose name, by the way, I ADORE. It's hysterical. Say it out loud. Go on.) guy is doing something with a.. stage? And some smoke? Could someone please explain to me what exactly it is he is doing in the classroom?
Thanks.

He's doing a demonstration of some kind of magic. He's on a stage, which is the classroom setting. Picture a classroom from Harry Potter; there's a stage so everyone can see the teacher conducting their not-so-important...things. The smoke is part of Dr. N's demonstaration, but he is proven to not know all that much when the smoke enchnats the antlers that attack Yero, Elphie's Hero. -gyps

Now that you mention the antlers coming alive, I think Nikidik was attempting an animation spell. Does anyone remember what he was trying to animate?

The smoke within the spell was intended towards the 4 oil portraits of the founding fathers of Ozma Towers, and what they'd have to say about the co-ed classes, or whatever.
If you guys are serious about the book club starting on 3-1, maybe I'll add to it, if that's cool.
BTW, anyone ever listen to the audio version?

DLJ - head over to Rush Margins and introduce yourself in the intro thread ("No, I'm not seasick...").

LLAM, my friend was reading the book in enrichment (which is a silent reading period thing at my school instead of going to church) and she leaned over and pointed to his name with her eyebrows raised like "WTF is that?" and I told her to say it outloud to herself and she started laughing so hard that the teacher asked her if she was okay. Wicked names are fun, I tell you.

I don't think it ever says why in the book, all I can remember is that it was Galinda when Part II (Gilliken) ended, and Glinda when Part III (City of Emeralds) started. I don't remember if they ever stated why it was changed, just that it had been.

I believe it is still changed because of Dr. Dillamond. Okay, I dug out my copy of the book and here is the exact wording:
"Glinda- for out of some belated apology for her initial rudeness to the martyred Goat, she now called herself as he had once called her-"
It's on page 130, Chapter 1 of The Charmed Circle.
