Not sure if this the right place to post this, but I will give it a shot.
Personally I totally perfer Boq in the books as to the SCRIPT for Boq in the musical. He has always been my favorite character but I felt that he was too geeky in the musical. Chris Fitz does an awsome job of making Boq more like he was in the book.
The original Boq from previews, dunno if any of you saw him, I couldn't stand (my own opinion) Kirk McDonald, he's a fine actor but took Boq in a completely wrong direction.
What do you all think? Also, my little wish, I wanted the Galinda and Boq kiss from the book in the musical....

Sorry Eponine, but this belongs in the Grimmerie thread so it was moved. The Library is for fanfiction. The Grimmerie is for book discussion. That being said, grat topic I totally like book Boq more than musical Boq's character, though I was mad about what Maguire did with Boq in the end of the book (not gonna say cuz it's a spoiler!)

Boq seemed to be so much more significant in the book than in the play IMO. i liked "book-boq" better than "show-boq"..he was a little more aggressive

Yeah I didn't like Kirk too much. I love Christopher Fitzgerald. I think the musical Boq is a little bit more annoying and pushy than book Boq. The San Francisco one even more than the one now. Book Boq keeps a low profile a lot more after one big outburst. I like both though!

I love the way he & Elphie become friends the book, that whole scene with him falling out of the tree. I always thought that Gregory Maguire was going to have them get together at some point though, with the way he was leading the book before Elphie left for the Emerald City.

weird thing about boq... I was just looking at Frank Baums Wizard of Oz, and Dorothy meets up with munchkin named Boq right before she meets the scarecrow.... very weird.

I'm really on the fence with this character. I don't really have an feelings on either extremity -- I don't especially like him, but I don't loathe him unadulteratedly. I agree though with Gypsy, that it is pretty darn cool when he falls out of the tree. That was one of my favorite book moments...and one of his lines in the book:
"Elphie! I may be short but I'm not an infant!"
I like it because it sort of sums up my life...lol

I agree with the majority - book Boq is better than show Boq. weird thing about boq... I was just looking at Frank Baums Wizard of Oz, and Dorothy meets up with munchkin named Boq right before she meets the scarecrow.... very weird. Yes, they are actually one and the same person. Later on in Wicked (the book), Elphaba goes to Boq's house and finds out that Dorothy stayed with him for a little while, which makes it obvious that Boq is the Boq from the WWoO book. I think, in WWoO, the Scarecrow is Boq's scarecrow, but don't quote me on it.

that works well in the context of the book. In the musical it wouldn't work well, because at the time that dorothy would meet Boq he would already be th tinman.
Please black out all possible spoilers. Thank you. - The BoZ

Like all of you've said...I prefer book-Boq. :-) He seemed to have more of a mind of his own than musical-Boq, who was infatuated with Galinda, as book-Boq was, but he didn't seem to be able to function without her telling him what to do. And he was whiny and annoying. Book-Boq had friends and a personality and could function on his own. Yay for making sense! *llam*
I have to say, that scene where he and Elphie first meet in the vegetable garden is my favorite in the entire book and I really wish they'd done it in the musical. "Master Boq...in my lettuces!" Yes, I am easily amused, how could you tell? ;-)
