Okay, Gregory Maguire wrote Wicked: The Life and Times of The Wicked Witch of the West, correct? So then who is Winnie Holtzman(?) and why is she being credited for writing the book for Wicked the Musical? I understand that Wicked by Gregory Maquire and the book for the musical may differ, but how and why? And what exactly is a book for a musical? Like, the script? I thought about that, but then I thought, "No, they would call the people the script writers then, not book writers." I don't know. Just kind of confused.
Another question, but not so confusing: Is it better to read Wicked by Gregory Maguire and then see the musical, or should I wait until after I see the musical to buy and read the book?

Winnie Holzman wrote the book to the musical or the script, yes. But yea, that does get a little confusing.
I read the book before I saw the musical but I don't think it really matters. Just know that they're VERY different!

I agree. It doesn't matter which order you do it. I saw the musical before reading the book and since they are different, it's almost like having 2 different stories. Neither one takes away from the other, though.

The musical is very loosely based on the book. So if you are going to see it, just keep in mind that many things are different and a lot of details have been taken out.
