As a holiday "surprise" (we'd actually known about it for months) our parents bought us (kk and I) tickets to see Wicked at the Kennedy Center. What actually did surprise us was the seats we had; Box seats, almost eye level with Stephanie for Defying Gravity. We could see just about everything that went on onstage, and it really was magical. All four of us, after seeing it on Broadway, were impressed with the way the production efortlessly adjusted to the Kennedy Center Stage. THe scenery remained intact, as did Glinda's bubble, Elphaba's Defying Gravity machine, the Dragon above the stage, etc. I noted (as some others have) slight veriations in costumes, but also in entrances; I recall that sometimes cast members entered from the right when I had distinctly remembered them entering from the left, but meh, that's just a picky obsessive fan thing. Stephanie wowed us all. Her impression of Elphaba is very different from Idina's, but I liked it all the same. And her voice especially, different, but good. Very good. Kendra was different as well. We found her Act 1 Galinda to be much campier then Jennifer Laura Thompson's, which is not a bad thing (I liked it). She also had absolutely great comedic timing. We were also impressed by Derrick Williams as Fiyero, David Garrison as the Wizard (who, for his curtain call, came out wearing a Santa hat), and Jenna Leigh Green as Nessa. All in all, the show doesn't lose any of its magic when it leaves the Gershwin. Absolutely Wicked!
