I don't know if there has been a post about this already, but it just occurred to me that I could very well be pronouncing Idina's name wrong because I heard JLT say it an interview during Broadway on Broadway as:
eh-dina - with more of a soft sounding Ee sound like in e-mpire, excellent, e-dina, its hard to make it clear just by posting but I hope you all understand what i mean...
I have always pronounced it I-dina, with a very hard sounding, strong I , as in iceberg, Ireland, etc.
Does anyone know if there is a right or wrong way of saying it? I think both are very pretty, and the softer sounding one is actually prettier!
Thanks plenty dearests!

I always pronounce it Ed-ina. But Ah-dina works too. Anything's better than Eye-dina!! I've been trying since the summer to stop my mom from calling her that but no luck... Eye-dina is very wrong

AHH I'm glad someone posted about this because alot of people at the Stage Door say it wrong! llam and Im always to embarrassed to correct them..and whenever I tell someone about her and they bring her up again they always pronounce it Eye dina...
But its Ehhdina...Thats the way Joel Grey pronounced it at the Tonys, JLT pronounced it, and she herself has pronounced it in interviews, concert-sound clips
Haha Hope that helped ;D I think the funniest thing about this is she changed her original name to this so people could pronounce it better...haha yet alot of people arent sure how too!

She changed her last name, ALittleWicked, from Mentzel to Menzel, since it was easier to pronounced. And I pronounce her first name "Uh-deena".

She changed it to Idina Menzel from Aedina (or Aedena, I'm not totally sure but I know it started with an Ae) Mentzel.

She changed it to Idina Menzel from Aedina (or Aedena, I'm not totally sure but I know it started with an Ae) Mentzel. LIKE AELPHABA!! OMG she was born for this role. I love names that start with like Ae or ... *cant think of another* Oh yes I can, Aeden (Aid-en) I love that name.

On a biography website for her..I cant remember where I think she said she changed it from Adena to Idina like what you said..and on her official website it says this: I took out the t because everyone always pronounces it wrong. Now it's like Menzelle - like French, but not. haha..not exactly sure what good it was because its just as difficult for people to say it! gotta love idina

I've always pronounced it UH-Deena. ::Shrugs::
IMDB says this: Name is pronounced "Ih-DEE-nah men-ZELL
So I really don't know. Adam Pascal pronounces it UH-Deena. And he's known her since they were teenagers, so I don't really know how it's pronounced.
Also, IMDB also says this: Birth name: Adena Mentzel.

Yup, it does. I read in an interview with her that she changed her name from Adena Mentzel to Idina Menzel because everyone was prounouncing it wrong. Hmm... so now instead of people calling her "Adena Mentzel" they call her "Eyedina Menzel". Great job, Dee! llam I'm just kidding.

I'm next-to-positive that it's uh-DEE-nuh because that's how Adena is pronounced. At the Tony's everyone said it uh-DEE-nuh.
