Because there has been so much rumor and speculation - innuendo, outuendo - gypsy is here to set the record straight! LLAM, thanks for the article gypsy!
Whoo, I had fun with that. Anyway, I was wondering that myself. Maybe they assumed LBB was the replacement but realized that she actually wasn't?

I'm really bummed that it's not Laura. She's really good. Of course she's not as good as Kristin, but I still really enjoyed her performance.

This is all so confusifying! I looked at Laura Bell Bundy's website and it announced that she would be taking over after Cheno leaves. But then playbill.com says that Jennifer Laura Thompson will be... what is going on here?!

WHAT?! No Laura?!?! Aww. I totally enjoyed her performance. She was totally mag, though not as mag as Kristin, but who can be as Glinda? Well, break a leg to this Thompson lady. Sure she'll bring something new and interesting to the role.

LBB was in negotiations to take over the role, and was very close to inking a deal (as far as I know.) However, she and the producers did not see eye to eye on a few items (which I will not discuss out of respect for the parties involved, and also, Aly's rules.) Also, the producers had always been actively searching for a new actress to play Glinda -- their problem was that they hadn't been able to find anyone. I had heard Jennifer Laura Thompson's name tossed around... but then again, a lot of names had been tossed around. Also, the WICKED mafia (as I like to call them, and Aly knows why -- ha ha) is very good at keeping the important, official items "hush hush" until they are ready to release them.
But GOOD LUCK to Jennifer Laura Thompson! She'll be getting an official "good luck" from Kristin's fanclub on the day Kristin leaves (So she'll get it on her first day.)

Jennifer Laura Thompson seemed really really good as Hope Cladwell in Urinetown. Good luck! Or, good luck, Laura.I'm extremely confused!! Do you think they're gonna share the role, and stuff? Haha, just my opinion.

Is Laura going to stay on as the standby? Anyone know for certain?

Laura is not going to be Glinda. Jennifer Laura Thompson is. Not positive whether Laura would be staying as a standby or not, but my guess would be she is...unless she's leaving to do something else. Isn't she in talks for I'm a Cheerleader and Tarzan?
I'm really happy about Jennifer Laura Thompson. She's extremely talented and I'm looking forward to seeing how she interprets the role.

I just decided to take out my "Footloose" OBC recording to hear Jennifer Laura Thompson...She has a really, really good voice..just she doesnt really sound like a "Galinda/Glinda" to me..and I think she sounds NOTHING like Cheno..but she still has a good voice so I guess we'll just have to see...

Well, Kristin has a really unique, distinct AND versatile voice. It is hard to sound like her naturally. I'm sure Jennifer can also be very versatile with her voice, and can sound like GLINDA, not Kristin, even though there isn't much difference between the two. (that was a compliment) I have faith in her being able to somewhat re-create the role a tiny bit, because Kristin Chenoweth is irreplacable, as you all will agree. I'm excited. -gyps

Laura can definitely do it. I saw her in "Urinetown" and she was fantastic. A great choice to replace Kristin.
