This is to discuss different characters' levels of Wickedness. How maybe The Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch should maybe switch names? -gyps

Wickedness levels: at the top of the scale is Morrible, definitely. Always Morrible. SHE should be one of the witches. Maybe she should be the WWofthe West and Elphie can become the GoodWitchof the South (since they don't ever mention one and since she did spend time in the south as a kid)

Glinda is kind of wicked at the beginning when she's thinking of herself. And if you go with original Oz history, Glinda is the witch of the south.

Glinda's Wickedness shines through the entire show. She cares about Elphie and Yero, but she honestly does value herself more for the majority of the show.

*spoiler* I think it's the Wizard and the Morrible who are the truly wicked! Morrible calls the monkeys spies & both she & the wiz are manipulative and plotting.
Elphie's mama was a lil wicked too for cheatin on her the governor!

I don't want to start a debate, but since when is being selfish wicked? At least Glinda never killed anyone or deliberately hurt them to get her way, like Morrible and the Wizard do. Yes she convinces Boq to take out Nessa. Sure she thinks of herself more than others. But is wickedness really the same as selfishness or vainness or shallowness? Still sticking by my Good Witch!

Glinda's wicked because Cheno said she is. How's that work for ya?

OK, now lil Aly, let's not exaggerate... Cheno has been quoted saying that there's some wicked in Glinda, among many issues, making her a comlex character. She doesn't consider the role just wicked... only in part, and from what we see in the show, she's only a little wicked, when she's young, and it's most likely in the moment when she "hates anybocy that much" to give her the black hat during DTL.

Glinda's wicked because Cheno said she is. How's that work for ya? Really?? Where does she say that? If Cheno says she's supposed to be wicked then maybe I've under (or possibly over) estimated the Glinda character!

I think Galinda is the wicked one. Wicked is not the same as evil. Galinda's a little b*tch. And then so is Glinda, suggesting to use Nessa in a plan to catch Elphie. Come to think of it, I think every character in the show has a bit of wickedness inside of them.
And just for amusement, the first word in the play is 'Good,' while the last is 'Wicked.' I love thinking about these sorts of things. -gyps

She has said it in numerous television interviews... when speaking of her portrayal of the Good Witch.

I've never seen any of the tv interviews. I have a friend with a tape of them, but she lives pretty far away, so that leaves me stuck. I'm just pulling things out of my butt here to add to the thread. I just think everyone in the show has their wicked moments. Like Fiyero, even him, going from nice guy to moody to elling adn demanding all pretty fast. Not saying I don't blame him, though. -gyps

The whole point of the book that the show has been able to get across even though it's taken some liberties with plot points from the book is essentially what Glinda says in the beginning, about people being born Wicked, or having Wickedness thrust upon them. Elphie, for all her good intentions, made some mistakes that contributed to the propoganda that she was, in fact, evil. On the other hand, the "good" characters, like Glinda, have evil in them as well. It certainly wasn't out of kindness that she tells Boq to ask Nessa out, nor was it out of love and caring that Glinda told the WIzard and Morrible to use Nessa as bait to lure Elphaba out of hiding. Not only that, but NEssa, a good sweet girl who's major contributing flaw was the fact that she was crippled. While not her fault, she was a social pariah because of he father's guilt-ridden doting. It never gained her any friends, and ultimately turned her into The WWotE. Boq is a product of his own wicked ways. His infatuation for Glinda leads him to get entangled with Nessa, which not only changes his life, but the lives of his entire people.
So, they all wicked, darlings. And as good actors, their portrayers know that. Call it complex, complicated, or wicked....it's all different shades of the same animal.
The whole point of the show and the book is that we, for however good we may profess to be, are ALL wicked.
