Gasteyer Now Signed for Chicago Elphaba, Kristy Cates to be Standby...
Following up on previous items reported here first, the latest batch of insider reports this morning say that Saturday Night Live alum Ana Gasteyer is now indeed signed for the Chicago production of Wicked, which will play there after the tour pfastes through. Said to also be signed as her standby is Kristy Cates, who's been playing the role in Toronto during Stephanie J. Block's recovery up there.

Also, Kristoffer Cusick (Rent, Saturday Night Fever, Wicked Fiyero u/s Broadway) will be Fiyero.

what?  whatever happened to stephanie j block playing elphaba? i know she's injured but does she just stop after toronto? are there different casts for different cities? if so, does anyone know the LA cast? |

Different casts-- I believe Stephanie's on the tour, and Ana et al will be in the permanent Chicago company.

Hooray!!!! I'm soo excited! I'm live in Chicago and have never been to New York, so now I have a chance to see Wicked multiple times!!!!!! (cackles with glee)

I wont be seeing her play the role, but I think it'd be pretty cool. They wouldn't put someone in the role of Elphie if they didn't have faith. As long as everyone keeps an open mind, and no one expects her to be Idina, I have high hopes.

I'm so excited for this cast. I'm going to be seeing it Aug. 5th! We have Orch. row C tickets. ;D It'll be my first time seeing Wicked, and I'm sure it'll be amazing. From what I've heard from her, Ana won't have any problem singing the part. She has an amazingly strong voice.
So, who else is going to see it?

Now I'm kinda sad... I live in Chicago, and all of the touring cast tickets are sold out except for the lottery. This means that I'll have to see the Chicago cast, and Ana Gasteyer has gotten horrible reviews. I just don't understand why they'd cast a comedian for a role that has such depth and seriousness. I'm still excited that I get to see Wicked, but....

Well, they've got a former Joanne from Rent playing Gary Coleman in Avenue Q...As they say in DRS, "nothing is to wonderful [or whatever adjective you'd find most appropriate] to be true."
