Hello everyone! I know this is nothing new, but I can't seem to find a thread about it on here... Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew any information on professional recordings of WICKED live? I've heard a few rumors, including that the PBS video footage is from a professional recording taken in San Fransisco. Also, I heard that the Lincoln Center has/will have shot the show and release it when the show closes on Broadway. I was wondering if anyone could confirm one of these rumors or if you know of a different recording that's been professionally made? I REALLY hope that they filmed the San Fransisco WICKED and they release it in a few years! That would be amazing!

well, there have been many professional clips of the show online and on tv (from san fran and b'way) so i believe that it's possible that there was a professional full recording of the show! hopefully with the original cast!!

I would LOVE to see the SF cast - especially Robert Morse as the Wizard. I also want to see what the changes were from the tryouts in SF to the show in NY. I hope they really did film it...
And defyingravity11, I know that some video clips on TV (like those from Opening Night and other performances) are sometimes just from a press reel that is given to the media. Did that press reel come from a video of the full show? Who knows.
One last thing - has ANYONE ever seen professional camera equipment in the theatre? If so, did they film the entire show? Thanks!

I think that the Library of Congress always makes a video recording of a Broadway show before the original cast leaves, just to put it in the archives. I think the only way you can view it, though, is if you're doing a real research project. I don't remember where I heard that...I went to the Library last year, maybe it was then on the tour. Don't remember. But I do think they tape it, at least. Don't know about the SF cast. It sounds like the guy who played Boq sucked.

If a professional recording of Wicked was to come out, it would be of the original Broadway cast, not SF. That's just the way things go lol.

And defyingravity11, I know that some video clips on TV (like those from Opening Night and other performances) are sometimes just from a press reel that is given to the media. Did that press reel come from a video of the full show? Who knows. The press kit only has a minute to two minute footage of No One Mourns the Wicked, The Wizard and I, What Is This Feeling, Dancing Through Life, I'm Not That Girl (?), One Short Day, Thank Goodness, Wonderful, As Long As You're Mine, No Good Deed, and For Good (?)...at least the one I have only has that. I've never seen a professional copy of the show recorded, I've only seen the eBay tapes where people smuggled equipment into the theatre illegally; I don't think they have any from SF, just from the first week or so of NYC.

I've seen the SF c-d on ebay. It's kind of rare though. There's also a place in New York where you can find these tapes. I'm not sure where. I just know because my friends parent works there. Also they may not even have the SF one, but orignal cast yes.
