I don't think anyone's mentioned this one yet. Millie, from Thoroughly Modern Millie. Longing for indpendence, to get away from her small hometown, everything about her but wanting to marry into money. And of course, there's Elphaba, whose life before Galinda is like me in grade school. When she came out during DTL with that hat, that's why I cried. Her mis-understood personality, and everything, really. *sigh* Edit: That's also why I love my banner so much.

In the tradition of the TV characters thread, which musical character do you most relate to and how? I AM Marian the Librarian. Uppitty, prim, proper, correcting, but totally naive and hopelessly romantic. DSO, I am sooo Marian! I was watching that movie last night (well, technically, this morning), and I was thinking that. I am the exact same way - esp. in the Kristin version of the show. Sort of bookish, and, like you said, correcting on the outside, romantic and wistful on the inside. Your description could seriously be of me. *shakes head at eerie coincidence and belts along with "My White Knight" from the soundtrack*

I think I can relate to Elphaba, not being able to fit in and all that. Along those lines, I also relate to Belle. I also like to read like Belle. I'm like Marian the librarian in that I like to fantasize on the inside about "My White Knight". I think he is probably the ideal Marian came up with.

Yes, that's what the song is about, that the "White Knight" is the man of Marian's dreams. Characters I relate to... I'm definitely the oddball at school, so Belle and Elphie there... which is weird, since they're girls, and I'm a guy... and I think Jack from ITW and JoJo and Horton from Seussical, I like to come up with ideas and dreams and things to write down.

I'd say Eponine in Les Mis, Maureen from Rent , and Glinda....
Eponine bc I always find myself the friend of the guy I really like and have to watch them hook up with someone else, its so painful and I can totally relate to her for that.
Maureen and Glinda kinda go together, its the side of me that has to be the center of attention. Usually I'm pretty quiet with people I dont know but with my friends I'm such a loudmouth. Maureen is like my crazy side and Glinda's my girly side. Eponine is #1 tho.

I used to be a lot like Eponine in Les Mis too... and then I actually, somehow or other, wound up with a boyfriend who didn't much care what other people said about me. There should be more guys like that.. Before that, I could relate to all those characters passed over by guys. I still relate to Elphaba though- especially in the second act when she's with Fiyero and says something along the lines of "I wish I could be beautiful for you." Stupid insecurity, I know, but I got all choked up the first time I saw the show and heard that line. There's always this part of me that can't believe someone would want to be with me in a romantic way. I hear ya, Elphie!

I'm kind of more a mix of characters. Maureen: in her kinda spastic and really energetic nature Elphaba: in my sense of humor, I'm more of a normal person who isn't really the best of anything (except I do find I shine a bit when I'm on stage), the fact that I more so have a few close friends not a huge posse, I don't try to fit in and I'm not afraid at all to be different, the fact that I can be very serious when it comes to things I care about, the fact that I always try to do what's right but sometimes I gon't succeed, and I am often very hopeful with things and I try my best to get them, but sometimes I really am sometimes surprised Lol, I guess mainly I'm like Elphaba...although I'm really kinda ditzy and spazzy a lot so Maureen shines through a lot! ;D

ah, if i had a nickel for everytime i related to a character...i'd have a bunch of nickels.
eponine, from les mis: its the whole "i'm in love with this guy but he loves this other girl and i'd have to die on the barricade to get him to look at me as anything more than a friend/sister person." "on my own" could so be my theme song.
sally, from yagmcb: shes so young, but so frustrated. with quotes such as "dont tell me my life isnt a shakespearean tradgedy" and "i was jumping rope. everything was fine. then suddenly it all seemed so futile", sally is my hero.
lucy, from yagmcb: we're both bossy and loud, but we have a kinder, gentler, vulnerable side. but dont let that get out to anyone. i'm also fond of offering phsyciatric help, only i do it for free.
mrs. shinn, from music man: she uses big words in conversation that she may or may not know the meaning of. that is so me.

Yeah- we were talking on IM and our friend came back (and all three of us normally set up a chat room when all threee of us are there (we're the idina chicas)) so I was like, "Hilary I think it's time for chatroom part 2!" Lol then she said, "Fine miss demanding. If you don't watch out I'm changing your name to Galinda." Lol, but a little difersification (my own made up Ozzian word) isn't bad!

LLAM, I call my friend Rebecca Glinda, because she made a comment the other day that she and her boyfriend were on the phone for an hour, and I said, "You talked that entire time?!?" She said, "No, it got silent sometimes. I think he just likes to listen to me breathe." I was like, "YOU ARE SUCH A GLINDA!" So my new motto for Rebecca is:
"Something's wrong. Rebecca didn't get her way."
And she thinks everyone loves her and she's impossible to hate, but believe me, it's easy until you get to know her!
I am so definitely the Elphie to her Glinda, because I'm the one who realizes all of the things that are important, and she's the one who will be shallow until something really life changing happens to her.
And WicKayed, "Before that, I could relate to all those characters passed over by guys. I still relate to Elphaba though- especially in the second act when she's with Fiyero and says something along the lines of "I wish I could be beautiful for you." I've never seen the show, so I didn't know Elphie said that, but I've said that to my boyfriend before...*sighs*

ooo, good question... Galinda--because of the whole blonde/dumb thing. i'm blonde at heart Jack (from Into the Woods) also dumb, and easily impressionable. yes, thats me to a T (or tee...or tea...w/e) Jimmy Smith (from Thoroughly Modern Millie) so not tied down, ready to move on, "sticks to dolls who wash their hair in bleach"--I like blondes. i cant really think of anymore at the moment, but i'll get back to you on this

I'm trying to think of a really good dumb blondeish, ditzy, bubbly type of character. The only one I can think of right now is the part I am currently playing, Patsy from Crazy For You. She is just me, there's nothing else to say. Everybody on this board who knows me and about the character I play, yeah, they get it.
I can also relate to Nessa and Elphaba. The whole outsider, loner, the odd man out, longing for acceptance kind of thing.

so im also like Marian from the music man.... but i am also like Lousia from the fantastics... want to be romanced and treasured by a guy but have fun and be her own person too....... what r us gals to do?
and come to think of it... im kinda like Joanna from Sweeney Todd (such a great show!) so she's looked in a room with a balcony and even though her gardian, the jucge, wants to marry her now that she grew up and is preety, she just kinda stands there in her own little world snd sings to the birds in the song "green finch and linnet bird". And then latter when the cute boy, anthony, comes to save her and they are talkind about how to free her because the judge will marry her on monday and "tis friday virtualy monday" and she starts freeking out and then Anthoney is like calm down, I have a plan and he sais "we'll sail to paris on sunday" and then Joanna replies with not a woopie, not a thankyou, not a what if he moves up the wedding day but a "what shall I wear i darent pack"....... she's just kinda in her own little world, la dee da, well im fleeing from this yuckie old guy to elpoe with this cute saolr boy.... hmmm, since i have sooooo much time what should i pack? but then on the other side of the coin she is very paranoied about her getting cought with anthony......
ahhhh, i love musicals
