Chicago is number one on my list. No competition there. It's so different from the musical it's great in its own way. I'm still a bit bitter about them leaving out some of the songs though. I know they had to and all that jazz (pun intended ) because of the time, but I'm still bitter. Fun tidbit though? That song you hear as Roxie is being carted off the hospital after she announces she's pregnant? That's 'Me and My Baby', which Roxie does sing in the musical. Okay, yes, I'll shutup about Chicago now. Others: Annie, Moulin Rouge, Cabaret, Fosse [technically that's just a filmed stage musical, but shh], and Gypsy.

the music man: you cant beat the original, with roger preston and shirley jackson. preston is the quintessential harold hill. you just dont get any better than him. the newer one is ok, and i'm super fond of the cheno as marian, but it just didnt have quite the same flavor as the original.
thoroughly modern millie: cant believe no one's mentioned this one! julie andrews as mille and mary tyler moore as miss dorothy. i saw the movie version after i saw the stage version (touring company) and i was really skeptical, b/c i thoroughly love the stage show. the stage show will always be my fave, but the movie version is great. julie andrews is just amazing.
guys and dolls: my best friend is in love with marlon brandow in this movie, its hysterical. my favorite part is when adelaide sings her song about having a cold, and when skye takes sarah brown to cuba.
west side story: hokey, yes. cheesy, yes. really awesome, major yes! the choreography is amazing!
annie: i'll admit it. i used to rent this one from blockbuster all the time when i was little. carol burnett as miss hannigan is my hero. the newer one w/ cheno as lily is also pretty good. "somebody get this hotel outta here!"

I love Little Shop of Horrors with Rick Moranis..lol. I made all of my friends watch it and they all thought it was SO weird but they LOVED it! I just saw the stage version last week and loved it also.

I forgot about Little Shop! How could I forget that one? At the Six Flags near Chicago, during Fright Fest, there is a show called Love at First Fright and one of the songs they sing is "Mean Green Mother From Outer Space" from that movie! Love it. Can't wait to see the stage version.

Oh Geez, I forgot about Fosse! I die for this musical/movie/dance bit! I seriously watch those dances over and over to learn them all. I have all done this with the entire Chicago movie. Oh, how I could dance to "I Can't Do It Alone" all night. I'm also ticked that they left out classic songs like "I Am My Own Best Friend" and "Me And My Baby" from Chicago. Other favorite movie musicals: 1. Little Mermaid - how could you turn done this favorite? Plus, I know I read somewhere that Disney was making a stage version of this. 2. New York, New York - gotta love Liza 3. Rocky Horror - It's just a jump to the left, and a step to the right!

I forgot to mention I like Oliver! and Little Shop of Horrors. I also like The Slipper and the Rose, which is a version of Cinderella. It's a beautiful story.

We're doing 'Rich Man's Frug' right now in my jazz class. I love love loved my dance teacher for that. 'Me and My Baby' is my favorite number in the show, so I was definately ticked when it wasn't in the movie, hehe. And why did they have to leave out 'When Velma Takes the Stand'? It would've been such a great dancing number for Catherine!

In no particular order...
Wizard of Oz Music Man (the original version -- Disney's was great except for two major things -- Kristin Chenoweth and Matthew Broadrick) Into the Woods (second favorite musical of all time, right after Wicked) Singin' in the Rain Annie (I love both, but I prefer the "newer" [even though it came out in (I think) 1996] version) Oliver! Peter Pan (My other obsession -- I love all versions of it, especially the new movie, but the Cathy Rigby version on tape is awesome) Cinderella (the Disney/Brandy one) Sound of Music Oklahoma
In case anyone's interested, Disney is planning on doing Fiddler on the Roof as their next musical (like Annie, The Music Man, and Cinderella). After that, Into the Woods is rumored but not confirmed.
Edit: I forgot On The Town and West Side Story!
