Ok, here's my problem: My drama teacher said that they choose the musical for next year, but she won't say what it is yet for two reasons: 1) It isn't written in stone yet, but theres a good chance and 2) She rarely gets to torment people with guessing games like this. All she said was:
1) It's really well known 2) It's been made into a movie 3) There are lots of trumpets 4) It WON'T be: Cabaret, Chicago, Music Man, Cats or My Fair Lady
And it won't be the sound of music or les miserables because they've done those already. Another thing to consider is that there aren't any singer who can dance or vice versa so it won't be a dance heavy show, and they want a show with a fair ammount of leads both male and female (they can't do my fair lady because theres only one girl). So, does anyone have ANY ideas? It's driving me crazy! Thanks.

My Favorite Year? The trumped thing you said reminds me of the show opener, which are these awesome trumpet things...err, not /that/ awesome, but they're pretty cool all the same. Hehe. They made the play into a movie starring Peter O'Toole. Sorry I'm not more helpful. -gyps

How about Sweet Charity? They have that whole brass band thing, and it was made into a movie starring Shirley MacLaine. There is a dance heavy number (Rich Man's Frug), but there isn't any singing. I've never seen the whole thing but I believe that there are quite a few men, but none of them sing. Charity is the main part, and while she sings, I don't believe she does much dancing. There are some other girl parts, but not huge ones. Another number from the show is "Big Spender" with an assortment of dance hall girls. It is a very easy number to dance to and a broadway favorite. Another possiblity is Gypsy. I believe there are a lot of brass and trumpets throughout most of the songs. There is also very little dancing. But there aren't that many big boy parts, but a lot of great woman roles, including Mama Rose. Did I help at all llam?

I was thinking Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella. It's been made into a movie 3 times (Julie Andrews, Leslie Ann Warren, Brandy) and there are trumpets for the palace and it's well known.

I thought of Cinderella too. My high school is doing that.

I'd say either Cinderella or Gypsy (Miss Mazeppa and her lovely trumpet).

It's a big mystery, I've told some people from school and we're starting to think Guys and Dolls because of the mission band. The trumpet issue is throwing me off, it could be anything, ANYTHING! Oh well, guessing is fun...
