Ah, I understand now. Oh yeah, guys! We can't complain about how awful Wizard of Oz is because without Wizard of Oz, there would be no Wicked. You make an excellent point. Yay for the Wizard of Oz! ;D

egghhhhhhh...Idina is so much prettier than Margaret Hamilton in the Wizard of Oz edit: i was just thinking about this and i dont know if im thinking incorrectly or if its just a difference between wicked and WOO...::spoiler:: in the WOO doesnt the scarecrow hates the wicked witch..he wants dorothy to kill her...and hes always scared of her..also the wicked witch is tries to set him on fire...but in wicked, the scarecrow/fiyero is obviously in love with the wicked witch..so im just very confused about the truth...and why the wicked witch wants to kill him in the movie if shes really in love with him i dont know..now i just got myself all confusified!! clarification anyone??

Because the Wizard of Oz(Movie) was made 65 years before Wicked & it is not real prequel.

Ok maybe I was being extreme in saying I'd never watch WoO again but it is going to be a while before I'm going to be able to with out thinking of Elphaba!

I still love the WoO, that has always been one of my favorite movies. And I never really gave a second thought to the Wicked Witch of the West, really. Except I did dress up as her for Halloween when I was in about 5th grade, llam. MJRWickedFan - There are going to be some differences, I mean, the Scarecrow couldn't be all 'Ohh, come to me baby' cause that just might have made Dorothy suspect something. So of course he had to act like the hated the Witch. But one thing I do find funny: The Witch tells the Scarecrow she's going to "stuff a matress with him". *giggles* And, really, there's the fact that Wicked isn't a real prequel to the WoO, considering Baum didn't write it. It would be interesting to see what he would've thought, though.

ya..i was just curious about that..because alot of "Wicked" explains things and why some of the characters did things in the WOO....it would be cool to see what Frank L Baum thought of "Wicked" thanks for the clarification

I dressed up as the Wicked Witch once, complete with green makeup. I never really thought about the witch very much, and I recently reread the original book to get an idea of how Wicked applied to that. I could see the WWotW's motivations and then I couldn't see her as totally wicked anymore. Wicked has totally changed my interpretation of the story.

MJR -- *Spoiler*Wicked and WoO have their differences -- Wicked is based off both the movie and book of WoO. In the book, Dorothy, Toto, and Lion are the only ones brought to the Witch by the monkeys -- Scarecrow and Tin Man are left behind. They used that part of the book so Elphie wouldn't be harming Fiyero and Boq*

I just watched The Wizard of Oz this morning, hehe. I still don't get any Wicked connection when I watch it. Margaret makes such a great Wicked Witch I just don't think of Elphie at all.
I also went out to Cracker Barrel today for lunch & I got a cassette(because it was so much cheaper) of a 1950 Radio Production of the Wizard of Oz w/ Judy Garland doing the voice of Dorothy. It was pretty cool, but their Witch wasn't all that great.

I can't watch the Wizard of Oz without breaking down into tears. It's not that I don't like it, it's just that they are so mean to her! And the poor girl's just misunderstood.

Maybe you should try watching Return to Oz, in that movie the tables are kind of turned & they are mean to Dorothy.

I think people are a little over dramatic about this certain topic in some instances. I mean sure, we all feel sorry for Elphaba and everything because we know what she went through, and personally that remorse follows me a little bit through The Wizard of Oz but not as much as through Wicked because her character in Wizard of Oz is pretty cruel without having the backstory.

In the film, she's all wierd, crazy and evil because she was, in fact, very very drunk. That Avaric and his red wine... -gyps

Haha nice, Gyps. Hmm, random thought for you guys. Anyone ever think, before seeing Wicked, that Dorothy and the scarecrow would make a good couple? Ooh, the irony is killing me...
