Hey, I have a school assignment for my Music Theatre class and we were given a list of choreographers, composers, actors, actresses, etc. to choose from for a project. I was very upset when no one from the cast of Wicked was on the list (besides George Hearn) but luckily enough Stephen Schwartz was! So my assignment is about him.
We have to have a 2-4 page report, a 5 minute oral presention, and either:
A poster, pictures, etc.
OR
A CD, tape, DVD, or VHS sample.
I plan on playing a section of Wicked, but I need suggestions on the exact part - needs to show off the music more than the singing because this report is about the composer, not the actors and actresses. Also, any information on Stephen Schwartz is most appreciated!

I don't know much about him, but I would suggest as far as the music clip playing No One Mourns the Wicked because the beginning of the song is basically the overture. It's a long section of instrumental music, and I think it would work.

I agree (because it also shows off different themes in the show) you could also do a clip of defying gravity(mabey) right after Idina sings "close my eyes and leap" when the eletric-harpsicord-thingy starts up.

Schwartz writes music and lyrics right?? One of his songs that has always floored me is Children of Eden. The lyrics and the gospel-ness of it choke me up every time. Plus, if you listen to it and then Wicked right after (or vice versa) you'll notice a ton of similarities in the instrumentals and even the vocal parts between the two musicals. So a comparison is always an idea.

Soon after I posted earlier I thought about the long dance section of DTL, so if you want a longer instrumental part, there's that song, too.

I was going to do a Wicked clip not only because I'm obsessed with it but because it's his most recent work. I think I'm going with No One Mourns the Wicked though - at least the beginning of it.

Yes, I have a list of all his work - from Children of Eden to Godspell, from Pocahontas to Hunchback of Notre Dame, from Pippin to his original CDs.
