Hi everybody, I'm new to online WICKED fandom, but have loved the show since I first heard the OCR a little over a year ago. I just saw the show for the first time a couple of days ago in Chicago, and it was absolutely amazing (especially Stephanie Block, who surprised me because I didn't think I'd really like any other Elphaba but Idina), and I'm on such a Wicked high at the moment that I thought I'd check out online fandom. All you people seem to be a lot more in the know than me, so I thought I'd ask a couple of questions that I couldn't find any answers to on my own: 1) Has there been any talk lately of a Wicked movie being made? If not an official announcement, then rumors, speculation, tongue slips in interviews, etc? And if so, how likely is it that Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel will reprise their roles? I'd absolutely love to see a movie, but I'm also terrified of potential Hollywood re-casting (suddenly, I'm imagining the likes of Hilary Duff as Glinda and, say, Avril Lavigne as Elphaba and crying in abject horror). 2) Does anybody know for sure if the Broadway show was ever filmed while the complete original cast was playing, like the 1999 London Oklahoma! or several of Sondheim's musicals? If it was, I realize it probably won't be available on DVD for years, to maximize ticket sales, but I'd just like to know if it'll ever be possible to actually see Idina and Kristin perform their roles, since they were the ones I fell in love with. Obviously, it wouldn't be half as good as seeing them live, but since I've missed that chance, it would be better than nothing.

I think it's the Library of Congress that has professional recordings of all shows, but you can only access them if you're a researcher or a student or something of that flavor.

If I remember right, the library at Lincon Center taped a live show of Wicked roughly last fall. Why they didn't tape it wiht the OBC I'll never know (I know that JLT was Glinda when it was filmed). To see it, you must be a researcher or something or looking to study the role because you're playing it, things like that.
Wicked as a movie: Could happen. If it remains the hit it currently is, it could be VERY possible. Idina and Kristin starring is almost set in stone if the movie does happen, because I've read it was in their contracts with the show. however, they could possibly get out of it if needed, but I doubt it. Wicked (the book version) was being made into a screenplay before Stephen Schwartz got a hold of it and made it the musical. I may have dreamed this once upon a time, or seen it somewhere else, but I may have read they're working on the book as a made for TV movie or something. that could be my imagination though.

Personally, I'm thinking the upcoming Rent movie (11 November, baby!) might have more riding on it than just that fandom. It's a very popular show so it has that merit, of course, but it doesn't star any major people (the way Chicago and Phantom did), even if Taye Diggs and Rosario Dawson do have plenty of film experience and semi-big names. If Rent itself and killer acting performances (even with those relative unknowns to most of the cinematic crowd) are enough to bring success to the film, (and also if the upcoming versions of Hairspray and Dreamgirls do decently), then I bet people will start thinking seriously about doing up other Broadway blockbusters, like Wicked, hopefully with a lot of OBCs intact.
