www.broadway.com/Gen/Buzz_Story.aspx?ci=516557I love that Wicked's beat out Spamalot, Phantom, and the Lion King for top grossing. And we know it'd be higher on the highest-capacity list if they sold standing room tickets at the Gershwin Poor DRS, though. At risk of sounding like an OBC whore (which I try desperately not to be), it's hard to picture the show without him. Harder to see it without Norbert, though

I also love that wicked beats all of them out! ha ha, it usually does anyway. But it keeps on making more and more money. Yay for wicked. I have to agree with you on the John Lithgow and Norbert thing, when they leave the show there is no way that they'll be able to make it have the same success. I mean the cast for the show is why it does so well.

True, but at the same time, that's what people said about Cheno and Idina leaving Wicked, right? And look how well things are going in SF, Chicago, and at the Gershwin These people created the parts, but it'd be a pretty pathetic acting community if there weren't anyone else who could do it.

Yeah... but I think the show also has draw with the fact that it is like a prequeal to the wizard of oz, a huge american classic movie. DRS does have a movie, but not as widely known. But that definately is a good point. JLT for Christine Colgate! (he he)

Another point in Wicked's favor is that the Gershwin is the biggest theater on Broadway, which is why they have the highest gross. They have more seats, so there is no need to have standing room only, but for people who can't find tickets it would be nice...

They also have the highest ticket price for those of you who check playbill.

I think Spamalot might be higher, actually, though I could be wrong...

I'm really glad for Wicked, because no critics really expected that much from it, and now it's grossing I think about $3.1 million a week, if I remember correctly. Plus, it's predicted to keep earning more and more. Hooray!!

No critics expected much of it? A show with a $14 million budget and quite a few big names that caters to the tween/teen fangirls? You sure?

No critics expected much of it? A show with a $14 million budget and quite a few big names that caters to the tween/teen fangirls? You sure? Well...what I mean is that no critics really gave it great reviews when it just came out. They may have expected it to have a decent run, but this is greater than they could ever have imagined. I mean, I read an interview with one critic who said that at the time "it was the style not to like Wicked."
