Okay, I just got back from my trip to New York and I had such a blast. Of course, I'm sure everyone knew that me and my family were tourists -- scared faces, consulting maps 24/7, awe-struckness -- and Wicked, of course, was Wonderful...
July 31st finally came and me and my mom headed down to the Gershwin from our hotel (which was about three blocks away, so we could walk and it was nice) and got there about 50 minutes before the show. I bought a "Shiz University" shirt ("I don't get it...", my mom says while looking at the shirt. The girl at the counter then explained it was the school they went to while I nodded and murmered "Duh" under my breath while scanning the other merch) and book program thingy. Then we went upstairs and went to our seats. I swear I sat for 15 minutes staring at the set...not blinking, lol. And FINALLY! the show started and my heart started beating really fast and it was hard to breathe and I was just ... WOO! lol. Act One went without noticable flaw, and I have to say J La and Joey are magnificant. Jennifer is absolutely hilarious! Tons of ad-libbing during Popular ("Is this thing on?...She...She gave me a wand and it doesn't work. It...doesn't work", "Elphie, look! (Points at shoe rack) These are REAL shoes", *My favorite* "I'm gonna teach you how to toss your hair. Toss-toss. (Watches Elphie try) Um...good. Okay, now just with your head. Toss-toss. Now, a little faster. Toss-toss. Faster. Toss-Toss. Now watch (Just slightly moves head) Yeah, didn't see that, did you?!")
Act Two was great as well. I never knew there was a ball in the show. Just one of those things you learn when you see it, I guess. And I was so impressed by Michelle's singing voice. She really should get to sing more. And then, the cat-fight. Oh my God, HILARIOUS! *Glinda slaps Elphie* Woman next to me: Oh no she didn't! *Elphaba slaps Glinda* Woman next to me: Oh snap, she did it again!
And then...the show was over. . But I went out to the stage door and waited. No ensemble autographs because they kind of rushed out. And Michelle pulled a slick, 007 type move my slipping out unseen and rushing down the sidewalk. A lot of the people left after 15 minutes so it was me and about eight other people there. Then Joey came out and I got his autograph...And I said two words to him: "T-Thank you" A few more minutes went by and J La came out, with her husband and BABY TOMMY!! He's a peach! Lol. Got her autograph. Convo:
Me: Um, Miss Thompson--
J La: Oh, call me Laura!
Me: * ;D* Laura, would you sign my program?
J La: Sure! *begins to sign, Tommy reaches for pen* Tommy! He doesn't want your autograph!
Me: You were great, and I loved you in Urinetown
J La: Well thank you. There you go. Bye!
Waited for Idina, but she didn't come out so we went back to the hotel. The next day we came back after the 3 o'clock show and was the first one there. Plopped myself right in front of the stage door and got ready. Got some ensemble autographs, and William Youmans'. Joey came out and said Hello to him and he recognized me (!!) from the day before. More ensemble, then Jennifer came out and I got a picture with her (No Tommy ) and then finally, Idina came out! I was so excitified. She went through the line, signing like mad for the people right behind the barracade thingy. And yes, I talked to her...
Me: I saw the show yesterday *oogling, she's touching my pen! she's signing* It was great!
Idina: Oh, thank you. Thanks for coming. *dashes off to sign more stuff and then hurries into the car*
Oh, and Taye smiled at me when I waved to him. All in all, I think I got about 10 autographs and got to talk to the stars. Carole Shelley and George Hearn waited for their cars and dashed out, but they waved and Carole touched me as she passed. Eee! Well, thats about it! I had a great time and I loved Wicked even more now. And that's saying something, now isn't it.
