Ok fanfic authors. This is your thread. Writer's block? Format questions? Muses? Share your ideas, thoughts, inspirations, questions, comments, and concerns here.
My question: How do you deal with writer's block? And how do you get rid of it?

LilFaba's mad that I'm writing here and not in a fic, but ah well. I'm having a harder time with my newer chapters, since the most recent one (5) was a little difficult for me to write. Not an easy subject. But I'm getting there, it's going a bit swifter. Not necesarily happier, but it's still going by.
And with writer's block...if you can't write, it means you have no ideas to write. Look around at things, notice details, let something inspire you. But you have to be looking. Don't just expect it to show up and bite you in the ^#*$. There's inspiration everywhere! -gyps

I suffer soooo badly from writer's block. Even with my Muse, LilFae. She's naughty and doesn't like to work. So I put in the Wicked soundtrack, open my word processor and just start typing ANYTHING that comes to mind whether it's related to the fic or not. I do paragraphs out of sequence often... Oh...and chocolate is good too. If you can eat it...

Usually I find my writer's block comes from an overload of other stuff in my life. No time, too much homework, or just too much side stuff. I try to build into my schedule time for writing and then take a few minutes to clear my mind... and then, when I start writing I give myself some kind of focus object, (ie: a picture of the character I'm writing about, perhaps a song he/she sings). *shrugs* And even then sometimes it doesn't come. But what I mentioned above tends to help. Even if I just wind up outlining the next section of my fic and committing it to paper, it kinda loosens the massive creative roadblock.

Writer's Block is a pain. I have yet to discover how to get rid of it besides taking a break for the night, sleeping it off, and trying again the next day. Wastes a lot of time that way.

I want everyone that's blocked to come up with some form of Wicked-related writing in...0800 hours. I have no idea HOW long that is, but doesn't it make me sound all initiative and intimidating? Anyways, I hope the image of being whacked with LilFaba's broom-of-wrath will inspire you enough!

Ack! I have this idea for a fic....but I'm not sure if it will defy gravity or fall flat on its face. Would anybody like to be my beta-reader and give me their opinion on it?

I'm always up for beta reading. Just let me know- Thespian_Lennon@beatlemail.com if you want me to. Hmm. And you know... that's not a bad idea... We should do some fiction challenges! Maybe monthly? Bi-monthly? *shrugs*

Sounds like a plan to me. I was actually pondering that myself the other day...thinking I would make a challenge involving a series of words instead of a paragraph or plot line...What does everyone else think?

There's another board I vist that does flash fics, every weekend. usually on a Saturday or Sunday. What it is is this:
At a perscribed time, someone posts a one word prompt. Then authors have an hour to write a complete fic and post it. That means no beta, you're up to your own devices--spell check, etc.
It's kinda fun to watch the diversity of stories everyone comes up with because of one little word. They're generally totally AU but don't have to be. There are no rules but "Post an hour after you read the prompt." Authors check in on the prompt thread, saying something like "7:43, be back in an hour" and then an hour later there's a new thread with the author's story.
Just a thought.

That's actually a really cool idea Chance. I'm all for it. It should be interesting to see who comes up with what in an hour! Maybe I'll even write something!

What a kewl idea Chance! I'm all for that! Getting rid of writers block for me involves watching movies or reading other stuff. Mooching off other people's creativity is a great way to stoke up your own creative fires Whenever I get blocked on a story I'm writing I always start something new and totally different- then by the time I get blocked on that one I look at the original one in a whole different light and switch back. Rotating stories is my way to deal with naughty muses.
