Thank Yous: Cate, thank you so much for helping me get inside Galinda's head, since you are her after all. ^_^

Elphaba had stayed hidden behind the white door all day long, not coming out for food or company. Galinda assumed it was because of embarrassment, which must have plagued the green girl all her life. While the blonde knew her roomie didn’t care for company, she did need food, which is why she found herself standing on the other side of the white door that stood between her and her roomie. She had a tray of food in her hands, dinner for the unwanted guest.
She shifted the tray to one hand and knocked on the door. As expected, there was no answer, so she knocked again and let herself in. Elphaba sat in an armchair with her knees tucked into her chest; she was watching Avaric splash a shrieking Milla in the lake. She did her best to ignore Galinda’s presence.
The blonde girl glanced at Elphaba every so often while she set the tray down on a nightstand. “You haven’t eaten at all, so I brought you some food,” She motioned towards the tray, which Elphaba made no move for. She just breathed in deeply and let it out slowly, her eyes still trained to the lake; She was very good at ignoring.
“Miss Elphaba, why are you still here? Haven’t they made it clear that they don’t want you to stay?”
Elphaba shrugged, “They invited me.”
“Well you can’t be here just to prove them wrong. No, you’re just here to torment me and ruin my reputation, as if being your roomie isn’t enough.” After all, it was because of Elphaba that Galinda always had to try so much harder to convince the other students that she was still very well-off, despite the awkward speck of green staining the white walls and hardwood floor of her dorm.
“I received a letter asking me to come, so I came,” Elphaba said simply, shutting her eyes as a breeze blew in from the mountains and made her beautiful hair dance.
Galinda shivered, then stamped her foot like a child. “Can’t you see they hate you! I’m only telling you this for your own good.”
Elphaba’s funny green lips stayed shut. She drummed her fingers against her legs to no real beat or rhythm.
“Just leave, go back to Shiz and spare yourself from further embarrassment.”
“To leave is to admit defeat,” Elphaba said, “I haven’t let anyone defeat me and I don’t plan to make those silly girls the first to succeed.” She rose from the chair and walked over to the dinner tray Galinda had brought up. The blonde noticed her roomie’s feet were bare, screaming GREEN against the peach carpet.
“Thank you for dinner, Miss Galinda,” Elphaba said with her eyes to the food and every intention towards ending this conversation.
“Miss Elphaba, please just go back to school and spare yourself.”
“You think being laughed at by those ninnies will be the worse of my sufferings?”
Sweet Lurline, she made herself sound as if she had been physically beaten. Uncharacteristically, Galinda wondered for a second or two if this was true.
“They are treating you terribly, yet you remain.” Galinda fiddled with the sleeve of her dress. “Life isn’t a constant battle. Just let some things go.”
“Yes it is.” Elphaba whispered, taking a bowl of soup into bed with her, raising a spoonful to her mouth and blowing on it to cool the scalding liquid.
“Well, stop fighting!”
“That leaves me right back to being defeated.” She smirked, mostly to herself, “and I won’t stand for that. I’ve been invited, Miss Galinda; I have no need to leave.”
Galinda whirled around, her skirts flying about her delicate legs. “I wish you wouldn’t hate me so as to do this.” She left the room and pulled the door shut, bidding Elphaba a good night before she had shut it completely.
When they left the next day, - Elphaba, Boq, Galinda, Ama Clutch and Grommetik - it surprised just about everyone else. Elphaba had been defeated by a force greater than she, or had she been smart enough to end the war before it really began? Boq leaving was a given, feeling horribly guilty for making Elphaba accept the invitation. Galinda was the biggest surprise of all; no one quite new why she decided to leave with Elphaba instead of stay with her friends. Had she also made a smart decision? Or was she just too embarrassed to have Elphaba leave?
As confusing and surprising as the matter was, neither Avaric, Shenshen or Pfannee seemed to care much; They were too busy getting to know eachother in ways that were not polite at all.
The End.
