Elphaba sat on her bed in her room. She felt like she wanted to cry but tried to pull herself together. She'd wanted so much to enjoy Shiz. She'd wanted to try and be the best she could be, just
like the others. She wanted to find love for the first time.
But now it was all clear. Fiyero had surely fallen for Glinda, and
there had been a little hope she'd get to be with him, but now there was none. Glinda had stolen his heart, like everyone else's.
What was the point of trying to be your best when life just gave you nothing? Elphaba felt like a ghost so many times. A ghost in
Glinda's shadow. Maybe she would never walk in the light.
Elphaba sighed and got out some school books. She had to do
something to take her mind off it. Did she really care for school any more? She was only sent here by her father to do well. Nessa, her sister always tried at everything. Elphaba wondered
if it would even be better to at least be beautiful and in a wheelchair. The way she saw it, everyone was better off than her.
She knew people still relied on her. She even liked Glinda and
really wanted to make a go at a friendship more. If only she didn't
have so many limits. Then she wouldn't be jealous. And people
would respect her.
