New fic, and I promise to finish this one. Lol, I really like the idea. Okay here goes:
“Elphaba! Can you believe it? I have a date for tonight. Boq was too shy to ask me to the Ozdust tonight, but once Galinda encouraged him...”
“Galinda?!” Elphaba shrieked, always the protective older sister.
“Don’t you dare say another word against her! I’m about to have the first happy night of my life all thanks to Galinda,” Nessa protested, starting to brush her cinnamon colored hair, humming softly to herself.
Elphaba rolled her eyes and curled deeper into the chair she was sitting on, shoving her emerald nose into the pages, her eyes darting from left to right, taking in a thousand words a minute. Nessarose continued to swoon about Boq, and the night that awaited them as she wheeled around the room, trying to find her lip stick. Elphaba tried to exclude Nessa’s bantering on and on about how happy she was going to be, but her sister’s voice prevailed. Nessa looked up from the bracelet she was trying to hook together and saw that Elphaba was looking a bit sad.
“Elphaba, try to understand...” Nessa said, trying to console her older sister.
Elphaba jerked her head up and stared into Nessarose’s eyes. “I do...Listen, why don’t I go thank Galinda for all she’s done for you? You stay here and finish getting dressed. You want to look perfect for Boq, don’t you?”
“Oh thank you Elphaba!” Nessa exclaimed and pulled her green sister into her arms, embracing her warmly.
Nessa wheeled into the Ozdust Ballroom with Boq, a munchkin boy, at her arm. Boq looked around distractedly, as if trying to find someone. Nessa cleared her throat and asked Boq if he would like some punch.
“Oh, um...” Boq looked around the ballroom once more and then down at his date, looking a little defeated, “Of course. Let’s go.”
The two made their way through the dancing students until they came to the refreshments table. Galinda and the new student Fiyero, her date, were standing there, supervising the party. Galinda had a large smile on her face. She turned to Fiyero and said, “Oh, Fiyero, I’m so glad our party turned out so well!”
Fiyero nodded and Galinda continued to beam at the crowd. Girls danced past her, gazing longingly at Fiyero and their dates swooned over Galinda. Galinda turned to see who was at the table, hoping to strike up a conversation and boast about her new dress when she came face to face with...Biq. Er, Boq. He was gazing at her, drooling slightly. When he realized Galinda was staring at him, he snapped back into the present, trying not to let it look like Galinda had surprised him. Galinda’s smile faltered for a second, then disappeared completely.
“Miss Galinda...you look wonderful this evening,” Boq said, trying to get closer to her.
“Gee, thanks Biq. Fiyero, let’s go dance,” Galinda said quickly and pulled her date onto the dance floor. Students parted like Lurline parting the Emerald Sea and Galinda began to dance the latest dance routine. Her arms were swinging and her legs were kicking. Of course, all the students began to do the same dance. Everyone wanted to be like the popular girl. Back at the snack table, Nessarose looked up at Boq, annoyed that he had complimented Galinda and had not once said anything about her dress. Galinda had even lent her the pink silk slip but had Boq noticed? Of course not.
“Boq...what’s in the punch?”
“Lemons and melons and pears...” Boq replied.
“Oh my!” Nessa exclaimed. How delicious!
The night wore on, full of dancing, frolicking and numerous cups of spiked punch, compliments of Crope and Tibbit, two of Shiz’s most delinquent students. Nessa and Boq had made their way into the garden adjacent to the Ozdust. Boq was sitting on a bench next to wear Nessarose had positioned her wheelchair. Boq turned to Nessa and patted her hand.
“Listen Nessa? Un, Nessa...I’ve got something to confess. A reason why, well, why I asked you here tonight,” Boq began.
Nessa turned to him, slightly scared that he was going to tell her that this had been a mercy date. Then she realized what it must be...
“Now, I know it isn’t fair.”
“Oh Boq...I know why,” she said. “It’s because I’m in this...chair, and you felt sorry for me. Well, isn’t that right?”
Boq looked guilty for a moment, and then put on a face of faux-surprise.
“No...No! It’s, um...It’s because,” Boq stammered. Think of something! “Because you are so...beautiful?”
Uh oh.
“Oh Boq!” Nessarose sighed, so happy she could melt. “I think you’re wonderful!”
She sighed contently and gazed up at the stars. Then her eyes widened and she looked at Boq, incredibly happy.
“We deserve each other!” she cried. “Don’t you see this is our chance?! We deserve each other, don’t we Boq?”
Boq’s eyes widen with semi-horror and mentally slapped himself for being so...complimenting. He put on what he could manage for a smile – which made him look as though he were sucking on something sour – and nodded lightly. Then he had an idea. Just let her have a good night and then break it off tomorrow. That’s what he’d do. He threw a smile onto his face and jumped from his seat, taking hold of Nessa’s wheelchair’s handlebars.
“You know what?” he said as they sped through the garden and into the ballroom. “Let’s dance!” He cried as they bursted onto the dance floor. Nessa looked up at him like he was insane. “What?!” she shrieked.
“Let’s dance!”
There's chapter one folks! Chapter two should be up in a day or so. Hope everyone likes!
