Well, my friend and I were bored one night so we decided we'd roleplay Wicked. I edited it a bit so that our separate bits blend more. We did this on three separate occasions, doing a different scene from Elphie and Glinda's lives. As you will be able to tell, it's based largely on the musical, though I suppose has touches of book inspiration. I thought they turned out fairly well, so I thought I would share them. Since I enjoy reading Wicked FF, I thought others would enjoy reading thses. Please ignore the bad use of lyrics, lol... and there are some spoilers, so if you haven't seen the show or read the script, *do not read this if you don't want to know what happens!*
-Roomates-
Galinda studied herself in the mirror as she flashed her winning smile. She was perfect! Perfect teeth, perfect hair, perfect looks, and a winning personality, or at least she thought. The only thing wrong was that green bean room mate of hers! Why did Morrible have to mistake what she meant when she raised her hand? Her? Volunteer to room with Miss Tall, Green, and Studious? Hah! That was a laugh, and she did laugh out loud.
Elphaba unpacked her scraggly clothes, hunching over and trying to conceal as much of her worn wardrobe as possible, recognizing it was the antithesis of her roomate’s fashionable closet. She jumped at a sudden snort from her roommate and dared a quick glance over at the short blonde before finishing folding her few garments and stuffing them unceremoniously into a dresser drawer. Why had this socialite volunteered to room with her, and then seem to want to take it back?
Galinda flipped her hair and then moved a couple of unruly strands. She smiled once more and then turned around to begin her own unpacking. She grimaced... She should have someone to do it for her. She, Galinda, of the Upper Uplands unpacking her own suitcase? Again she laughed and began on the many bags she had brought for her stay at Shiz
Elphaba started at the loud laugh from her roommate, and worried that Glinda (was that her name?) was finding Elphaba's skin an impetus to laugh. Just like all the other people in this unforgiving world that she was thrust into. She chanced a quick glance at the uppity uplander and realized that the blonde was simply laughing, about what ever uplanders laugh about to themselves. Elphaba quickly snatched up one of her books and plopped onto her bed, finding solace in the information pouring into her brain.
Galinda carefully hung her dresses up in the large closet she had to share with the Munchkinlander and her hair fell from behind her ear. She brushed it back in an unconcious display of grace. She attempted to put some of her belongings on the high shelf above the closet, but found her height wasn't sufficient and so found another place for them. Galinda then plopped down on her bed, seeming to drop into a seductive lounge without purpose. She felt as if she would cry. Her social status was ruined now that she had to room with this green girl! She would have, but she didn't want to seem weak in front of her roomie. She felt a power coming from her, and put her self on guard from it.
Elphaba slowly lowered the textbook she was devouring. She regretted the fact that her roommate seemed to regret her presence to such an utter amount that no conversation had passed between the two of them. Glinda, a seemingly shallow bubbly person, would typically seem the type to talk aimlessly, but not it seemed with Elphaba.
Galinda's eyes flicked over to observe the girl on the bed across the room. She was tall, or at least taller than herself, had very strong features, and of course, was green. If it wasn't for that, than perhaps she would be pretty. But, when Galinda thought of it, the skintone did give her a sort of exotic beauty. She snapped her eyes away from the girl and cleared her throat. Being the type that usually chattered nonstop, she was getting uncomfortable in the silence-filled room. "Well, if we absotively must room together, I am Galinda Upland, of the Upper Uplands. You are..?" She had forgotten the green girl's name, but it had been something weird.
Elphaba brought her head out of the fog of her reading and back into the real world. Had Glinda, or GUH-Linda as she seemed to insist, addressed her? Elphaba shyly closed her book and shifted her solid gaze onto the upland girl before croaking out a puzzled, "What?"
Galinda rolled her eyes and repeated herself. "I am Galinda Upland of the Upper Uplands and you are..."
"Elphaba." The green girl muttered, uninterested in conversation with this, this, well, she didnt know what Glinda was exactly yet. Then she sensed that Glinda wanted more of an answer about her identity, so Elphaba added, "Thropp. The Third Thropp Descending," Hoping that sufficed for conversation with her roommate.
Galinda smiled behind a petite and shapely hand. "Does your name imply elfblood in your history?" Everyone knew elves were green, and though it was a mean thing to say, it didn't phase Galinda. It was an honest question.
Elphaba, not shaken by Galinda's slightly socially unacceptable comment, (having never been socially acceptable herself) replied simply. She courteously said, "If you are referring to my verdigris, than yes, it might appear that I am part elf. But no, the putrid shade that I am seems to be simply a birth defect, or as my father seems to think, a punishment for his sins."
Oooh, scandalous! Galinda grinned at the thought of what kind of sins warranted that. She looked at the girl who made her last thought. She laughed at the sight of her.
Elphaba was growing weary of the random spurts of laughter emitting from the Uplander. "What are you laughing about?" She questioned. Her many years of society's bitterness toward her made Elphaba hard and determined on almost every level of her being.
Wasn't it obvious? Galinda got to thinking about how unlucky it was that this had happened. "Oh, this!" She cried out gesturing around the room. "This whole situation! Me being paired with you of all people!" She collasped into hysterics on her bed and soon found herself crying because she was laughing so hard.
Elphaba sat welded to her bed. She possessed no faint idea of how to react to the over reactive and over dramatic mess that she must learn to deal with for the entirety of her first year at Shiz. She calmly replied, somewhat under her breath as she returned to her reading, "You could just request to be placed in a dorm."
That made Galinda laugh even harder if that was possible. "Me? In a dorm? You are too funny!" She said all between spurts of giggles and gasps for air.
"And not just looking!" She added as an afterthought and then laughed harder.
Elphaba glared at her roommate down her long hawkish nose. "I'm very glad you find yourself amusing, because I certainly don't." She turned, frustrated, back to her book, trying to become absorbed into its pages once again, and block out the silly little noises coming from Galinda the Obnoxious and Ostentatious.
Galinda eventually calmed herself and got up off of the bed. She needed to share what she found so funny with someone. The whole story of how there had been some confusion over rooming here at Shiz. Her parents had wanted her to write them as soon as she could, so they would work as well as anyone else. She walked over to her desk and pulled out a piece of paper and a pen.
-Ozdust and a Little Before-
Galinda's eyes had been glued to the new kid. He was supposedly a prince, a winkie prince. How exotic! When he asked her to go to the dance at the Ozdust, how could she refuse? They were both so perfect! They deserved each other! Now she was in her room with ShenShen and Pfannee, looking through her wardrobe for something to wear.
"Please Elphaba, try to understand," Nessa pleaded with her sister in a mild and somewhat patronizing tone. They were in Nessa's room, and Nessa was tyring to convince Elphaba that she would have a wonderful time at the dance with Boq. Elphaba didn't seem too keen on her disabled sister attending any dance, but consented with a defeated, "I do," of understanding.
Galinda grimaced as she pulled out the ugliest hat she had ever seen. "Check out this disgusticified hat! My granny always sends me the strangest things!" She put it on as a joke and her friends tittered with laughter. Then an idea struck Galinda.
"Wouldn't it be the greatest if I got the green bean to wear this, in public?" She smiled with glee at the thought.
Elphaba, still deciding if she would darken the party with her presence at the Ozdust ballroom, walked sulkingly back to her room. She opened the door to find Glinda with her usual set of cronies, Pfannee and ShenShen. She averted her eyes from the spectacle of the three getting ready for the dance and sat down on her bed, dressed in her usual black frock, and picked up a book. Still determining her plan for the night, she pretended to emerse herself within the pages of the book in order to be ignored by Galinda and her guests.
Galinda shooed Pfannee and ShenShen out of the room, thinking she might better convince Elphaba to wear the hat if they were gone.
Elphaba looked up, startled by the sudden almost vacancy of the room that had just been filled by overly perfumed girls. Her eyes met Galinda's for a second and she started, "Galinda, listen, Nessa and I had just been talking about you..."
Galinda smiled and hid the hat behind her back. "And I was just talking about you!" She stepped toward Elphaba and held it out. "I thought you might wanna wear this hat to the party tonight!"
"It's really, uh, sharp, doncha think? You know black is this year's pink. It would go so well with your hair! It'd look smart on you! And you are so smart!"
Elphaba looked at the hat with apprehension, and back at Galinda for any sign of a hidden motive behind the sudden gift. Detecting none, she slowly took the hat from Galinda's hand and laid it on her
dresser. "Thanks," She practically mumbled under her breath.
It took all Galinda had to keep herself from bursting into fits, then and there. She turned so Elphaba wouldn't be able to tell if she let a smile slip and went back to her closet, to continue her search for the perfect dress.
After Galinda's kind gift, Elphaba felt a sudden boost of confidence, and shuddered quietly in response for it was a very rare occurrence. She had decided. Elphaba would show up at the dance, and wear something maybe, different than her usual black frock. A black dress! She decided it had to be black, just to match the hat. Then she cursed herself, feeling her roommates influence on her fashion decisions.
Elphaba, not paying too much attention to the way she dressed, quickly changed into her black dress and set the hat on her head. She adjusted it correctly in the mirror and even bent it a little to add a dip to the rim. She then walked out into the hallway and started on her way to catch a coach to the ballroom. On her way she spotted Madame Morrible.
Well, Galinda was nice to me, Elphaba thought to herself. I could do something to help her out. She tapped Madame Morrible on the shoulder and the carp looking woman turned her attention to her esteemed green student. "Madame? Galinda, you know, my roommate" She began, Morrible squinted her eyes in another direction, as if trying to picture the unimportant student. "Galinda of the Upper Uplands?" Understanding dawned on Madame Morribles face and she nodded for Elphaba to continue.
"She shows real potential for sorcery. Is there anyway you could get her into your class?" Morrible nodded thoughtfully.
"Well, for you, Miss Elphaba, we should be able to squeeze her into the class." Elphaba smiled and thanked Madame Morrible and headed on out to the coach.
Madame Morrible pulled Galinda away from her friends. What could Horrible Morrible want with her? And why did she have to come now of all times? "Miss Galinda. This is for you." The woman said and handed her a silver rod with a jeweled star on the end.
"What is this?" Galinda asked.
"It's your training wand. Miss Elphaba convinced me that I needed you in my program, although I, myself, don't think you are cut out for it. You have Miss Elphaba to thank." Morrible didn't seem too thrilled to be adding Galinda to her program.
Galinda stared at the wand in her hand. What had possessed Elphaba to recommend her? What had Galinda ever done for Elphaba? Then it struck her. The hat! And now Elphaba was ging to make a fool out of herself. What had she done?
Elphaba walked into the Ballroom with an unusual bounce to her step. She opened the doors to the dance floor and stopped dead in her tracks at the top of the stairs as every eye in the room turned in her direction. It was as if an unseen spotlight shined on her. Her confidence began to ebb away, but she realized she had nothing to lose. She continued down the stairs to the dance floor and began dancing to the songs in her head, since the music had stopped short at her entrance.
Galinda was mortified! What could she do? And now Elphaba was making even a bigger fool of herself, dancing like that!
Elphaba flipped her wrists and wove her arms around, bending her knees, and standing straight again, continuing in an alien movement.
Galinda took a deep breath and a leap of faith. She walked up to Elphaba. "Mind if I cut in?" She began dancing as well, badly imitating Elphaba's movements.
Elphaba stopped her motion for a split second, with a look of shock aimed at Galinda, and then started up her own dance again.
Galinda breathed a sigh of relief when she heard the music start up agina and saw the other students began their own interpretation of Elphaba's strange dance.
Elphaba smiled warmly at her sudden acceptance and met Galinda's gaze and her smile grew. She for once, was not alone. The realization made her soul glow with a sense of belonging she had never felt before that night.
