Success! Thanx to outoftheblue, I finally got my header!
So here's how to do it, and I've tried to make it as friendly to the html illiterate as possible:
*FYI* This will change the colors of your LJ, but you can change them later
1. Go to
www.livejournal.com/customize/ and make sure you're on the old system.
2. After you click "change" (or haven't done anything, if you're using the old system already) click on the Modify Journal link (http://www.livejournal.com/modify.bml)
3. On the Modify Journal page, switch your layouts to Generator.
This is where it might get confusifying:
4. In the overrides section, copy and past ALL of this: (starting with "Friends" and ending before point 5.

5. I know that's big and weird..... but hang on. See where there's the link? In the overrides section, replace that with the url of your picture (you have to have it hosted by
www.photobucket.com or someplace like that). *Be sure to leave the parentheses around the url, that was my mistake
6. Now click save on the bottom of the page. You can see your website, but the header might be overlapping or too far away from where the text begins. If so, go to #7.
7. Okay, one more html change. Follow the link from #2 to the modify page.
8. Go to the overrides section, and find your image URL.
9. Coun seven lines up from that, to where it says "margin-top: 450px !important;" Play around with the number until the distance between the text and the picture is how you want it, by saving, looking at your page, and going back to
www.livejournal.com/modify.bml10. You're done! However.....this will have changed you background colors, text, etc. In the overrides section, wherever you see "color:#..." ("color:#000000 for example") you can change that to make different colors, for more info go to
hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/reference/color_codes/THE END!
