New cast review

Hey everyone
Well I saw Wicked tonight with the new cast and here is my review.

Megan was adorable. She is a great Glinda. I still love JLT but Megan has a beautiful voice and is good.

Ben Vereen is probably my favorite Wizard. He was sooo good. During "Wonderful" they added new singing parts and more dancing which made the song even better. I was never a big fan of that song but Shoshana and Ben are great together. He is more of a dancer and a showman than George Hearn so I definitely like him better. And during NMTW when the lover comes out I was expecting to see David but a black guy comes out and then I remembered that the wizard is now black.

Rue McClanahan was, I hate to say it but horrible! Sorry for you Golden Girls fans but I did not like her at all. She cannot sing, she doesn't sing one note. She speaks the singing parts. I think that is why I didn't like her. Her acting isn't that bad it's just.... I don't know I wasn't a big fan of the new Morrible. I was disappointed b/c I thought she was going to be good but I didn't like her at all.

Of course this is their first show so I can't really judge. I am sure they will grow into their roles.

LOL sounds like he's in jail. I don't know how long he'll be in it, but I would love to see him as the Wizard also.

I'm still undecided. It seems to me that... *spoiler*

having the lover be a black man and the Wizard a black man might kind of give away the secret that the Wizard is Elphaba's father. Not to be racist or anything (sings Avenue Q) but yeah. **

But I'm sure Ben's very good. I'm glad to hear that they brought Wonderful back to it's normal ways, even if it wasn't a very good song in the first place. What I heard they did to it for George Hearn sounds awful!

Megan Hilty is beautiful and I'm so glad to hear that she's good as Glinda. I hope some clips of her are released soon and that we get some new-cast pictures soon as well!

...I still think Sean McCourt should have been the Wizard... ;D

What do you mean, "what they did to it for George Hearn"? I saw him in January...he's not exactly the most animated of guys, but he was pretty good, I thought.

I heard that they took out some of the dancing that Joel Grey did so that George Hearn wouldn't have to dance as much. So, having a dancer do the role means they can add more dancing for the role.

They changed the dancing, because of the body types; Joel Grey is much smaller than George Hearn, but, like Ben Vereen, they're both dancers. However, Elphaba and the Wizard did sing a little more at the end of the song, as George Hearn has very bad arthritis, so he couldn't do much of the softshoe Joel did.

I thought he was very good, and I saw Joel and Sean McCourt. I liked Joel the best, but I thought George did a very good job. And I'm glad Ben Vereen is good, considering everything he's been through.

Yeah I heard that they chopped up the dancing at that they even changed the ending of Wonderful because George couldn't handle it or something like that.

I'm so glad to hear good things about Megan and Ben. *insert random I want to get into laguardia(spelling?) even more now ad*
I can't wait to see the new cast, I'm really interested about Rue as Madame Morrible now that I hear one person doesn't like her.
