Ya know...I had seen the book for a few years and had wanted to read it...but when I was in college I had NO TIME to read anything other than Child Development/Education Practice and Policy books/articles. So I wound up seeing the show before I read the book...which of course led me to get the book the next day! I read it in 3 days and I loved it! I'm still trying to figure out my exact take on the whole "Mother Yackle" thing. Was she the Kumbric Witch or something else?? Also...I have to say I liked that Boq was more of a key player in the book and I was surprised at how he was the polar opposite of how he was in the play. Oh, and can I just say...everytime I picture Nessa with no arms, having to lean up against Nanny, I can't help it...I laugh and I can't stop. LOL Weird image!

Well, our stories are pretty similar, except I came so close to buying the book last June for some summer reading. In the end, I didn't have enough $$ with me to get all the books I wanted, so Wicked went back to the shelf. I changed my mind once I saw the musical, only this time the book was much harder to find. It was sold out in Barnes and Nobles and overpriced at Borders, so I tried the library. All 4 copies of the book were checked out and I was the 5th person on the waiting list. So I decide to head back to Barnes and Nobles the next day, tell them Borders is selling the book for 13 dollars, so B&N lowered their price for me, as well as my 10% off card. So I bring the book with me on my trip to Florida, finish it in 3 or 4 days, ponder, read it a second time, come home and find a letter saying that Wicked was ready for me at the library. It was all very funny.
What I think Mother Yackle is is just what the dwarf said; the opposite of a guardian angel. She's always there, and has a rather great affect on Elphaba's life. Possibly because Elphaba was a child of both worlds, no doubt she stood out and caught Yackle's attention, and she decided to survey the green girl's life from birth till death. Or it could have been that she was born *inside* the Clock of the Time Dragon.
And Nessa must be Homestar Runner's long lost sister or something like that. That's all I'm going to say about that. -gyps

I also read the book after I saw the show. It was a VERY busy time, so I finished about 9 days after I started (reading between classes and while I ate lunch). I'm still wondering about Yackle also....she kinda freaked me out . As did the Philosophy Club. My friend and I are still debating about that one.....Anyway, I'm glad they decided to let Nessarose have arms in the musical. That would have just looked weird. And Boq was way cooler in the novel. I liked him a lot better. I noticed something during the musical though. When Fiyero's driver is dropping him off at Shiz for the first time, did anyone else hear him say, "Well, see you soon Avaric!". I think I remember hearing him say it.... ~~~Amy~~~

I'm kinda glad they gave her arms in the musical... I would have just laughed the whole time thinking of her like HSR...or a weeble wobble... I would have so called her weeble wobble if she was a friend...*ish evil to her friends like that*

I bought the book at the bookstore in Downtown Disney at DisneyLand when I ws out in LA in June. I bought another book too (LAMB: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore....SO FUNNY I highly reccomend it btw) and read it first. I red the first part of WICKED but got no further because I came back to NYC in July to continue with school and it kept me pretty busy until, oh three weeks ago, LONG after I'd bought the cast album, but I finished the book in less than a week when I finally got into it and it was interesting to see the difference between the book and the musical.
Which btw, is there a thread here for that? The whole Book vs Musical thing?

and so funny....
Can I just please vent about how much I LOVE that song and wish it was on the cd? Yeah yeah I know spoilers, and all that jazz but I've seen the show. To heck with those who haven't. You pretty much get the whole Felphie thing from the cd (duh) and anyone in their right mind who has seen Wizard of Oz knows that the Wicked Witch of the East is the Wicked Witch of the West's sister.
Sa... just bitter cause I love Michelle's voice.

I actually like the way Nessa is portreyed in the musical better then in the book...but I think the play could have made her a bit more "pitiful" *is having a bad attack of typos...please excuse any mispelled words.*

LOL I think my favorite part of LAMB is when they're figuring out the Beatitudes and Joshua is obsessed with making a place (or at least giving a fruitbasket to) the Dumbf*cks. ;D

Ummm...hello? Anybody there? No?...Okay. I'll just hollar from down here...Lamb seriously rocked. Everything about it was just great...to the point where I gave several copies to my friends and family members for presents. But this is a Wicked forum...so maybe I should try to tie the two together... Try picturing Biff trying to make Joshua "popular."...or vise versa...Joshua trying to make Biff the messiah. I'll show what prays to say How to create a day Everything that really counts to be Powerful You're gonna be powerful... *giggles on the floor*
