YESSSSS!!!
She TOTALLY deserved that! I was at a Wicked/Tony party and whenever even the tiniest bit of bright green showed up on the screen, we all freaked out. We didn't even hear all of Idina's name announced, just Id- before we jumped up, screaming and laughing and yelling and hugging and shouting and crying and running down the street screaming (literally). It was so disappointing that Avenue Q won Best Musical. But I don't care - Idina won!!

Okay, so after a good deal of crying and punching the Shiz out of the garage door, I'm feeling a good deal more composed now. I know there are fans of Avenue Q on this board, so I'm going to keep most of my initial reactions to myself. ((The censored thoughts were something along the lines of: my personal O-pinion is that Avenue Q does not deserve that award. What they did was low- a smear campaign targeted specifically at Wicked, and I can't believe the voters let it sway them.)) Anyway, though... I guess I'm happy for Q on some level, (yes, I'm still saying this through gritted teeth). They needed to win more than Wicked if just to keep themselves financially in the green. Winning a Tony does one important thing- ups your box office totals. Wicked has been doing fine and dandy without any shiny statue to boost its ego. It's surviving on the loyalty of the fans, and I believe it will continue to thrive as it always has. In short- Tony or no, Wicked is a winner. My dad also said something to be before he went to bed that's worth mentioning- Remember that "The Wizard of Oz" movie itself never won the best picture Oscar, and yet it's still considered a bonafied classic today. Eerie how history has a way of echoing itself... But anyway, a BIG congrats to the winners tonight and "Defying Gravity" gave me absolute chills, as I knew it would! Good night, all. I'm off to shower and go to bed (dreams of a flying Idina dancing in my head)..

My teeth are totally gritted too.
And I love Avenue Q.
But my loyalty lies with Wicked.
I was happy for Ave. Q and all, but VERY put out about Wicked not winning.
To quote my brother, who is also a fan of both shows (but favors wicked)...
"It was sort of like someone letting you pet a nice rabbit and then slamming your other hand in a door."
Nicely put, brother dear.

My dad also said something to be before he went to bed that's worth mentioning- Remember that "The Wizard of Oz" movie itself never won the best picture Oscar, and yet it's still considered a bonafied classic today. Eerie how history has a way of echoing itself... I was thinking that to. Oh but I cried! I cried three times during the night, two emotions flowed out of me. (I don't cry. Wicked got me to cry in Defying Gravity and For Good when I saw it.) But tonight, when Idina won and said all of the to Cheno! I was bawling! My reaction was "Oh sweet Oz above! That is soooo amazing!" My best friend and mom both laughed. But when they did d.g. Oh man! And Cheno's little Tony song...I miss it! Why do I have to live in Colorado and not near New York! *sobbs into hands!* Ugh! Congrats to the winners...but esp. to Hugh and our Idina! Night all!

Hey People- I'm new to this board. I'm over in Chicago at Columbia College studying Musical Theatre. Just thought I'd put my 2 cense about the Tonys.. My family went up to NY a few months ago and saw both Ave Q and Wicked. Wicked is by far more amazing and I cried like a baby during "For Good" and if ticket prices were 300$, I would still pay it to see Wicked. The ensemble as a whole is amazing too! I do think that Wicked did get ripped off on a few things. Idina deserved best actress by far! Ave Q is just so quarky and cute and totally origional that I'm just pleased that they won best musical. Their so funny and just a little happy family. Its like the little show that could As some of the other posts read, I think Wicked will do just fine without a Tony - they already have a following of fans, similar to Rent. I think Wicked will be along for A LONG TIME. But, when I see the show again, it won't be the same without the origional cast Hope to talk more, Guerin F.

I am SO incredibly proud of Dee! My friends and I were all holding hands saying "Please say Idina, please say Idina..." And when Rob and Renee (who looked gorgeous) said "Idina Menzel" we all freaked out. I was jumping up and down screeching "Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God! She won! She won! I can't believe it! Oh my God!!!!" And then I started hysterical crying, as did most of my friends. We are all rooting for Dee. And she won! And she deserved more than anyone in that category, imho. And she looked stunning! I knew she was gonna wear purple!
"Defying Gravity" was amazing. Of course I was crying, saying "Idina is just unbelievable!"
Congratulotions to Susan and Eugune for their awards! They truly deserved them.
It's a shame we didn't win, but like I've said from the beginning, if we have to lose to anyone, I want it to be to "Avenue Q." And hey, all that matters is that "Wicked" is a huuuuge success, and there will always be people wanting to see it. Who cares about the critics anyway! We know "Wicked" is the best-and that's what matters.
And did anyone notice how happy Cheno was for Dee? And what Dee said to her was so incredibly sweet. Competition my booty. LLAM.

CONGRATULOTIONS IDINA!!!
I couldn't be happier! LLAM! I was sitting on the couch, feeling oh so depressed that WICKED only won 2 awards so far, and then I hear "Best Actress is... Idina Menzel!" I screamed so loudly! I called my friend and we were jumping up and down and yelling, "OH MY GOD IDINA WON OH MY GOD!" It was great lol. I loved Idina's acceptance speech... she was crying, I would've been too though and she thanked Kristin, which was so cute and her thank you to her "beautiful husband Taye" almost made ME cry... I wasn't even mad that Wicked lost for Best Musical because Avenue Q did deserve to win just as much as Wicked... I was rooting for Idina all along! It totally made my night. YAY TONYS!

We re-watched Idina's win today on the tape that we... taped and when Idina thanks Kristin - well, did you SEE that diamond Kristin wore on her finger? It's HUGE! Also, I thought Idina would wear white or red, but lilac worked really well for her lol. When she first appeared with Taye and Kristin in the audience, we all jumped up, "There they are! Idina's in blue and Kristin's in red!" And when Kristin appeared for the first time in her bubble... wow that was great! "It's good to see me isn't it? No need to respond, that was rhetorical. My fellow Tonians..." Tonians! LLAM!

wow... nothing like staying up till near dawn then waking up 3 hours later... hehe Anywho... Yay for Idina! I am so happy for her. Beyond belief. My mom is a huge Idina fan and I, while more of of La Cheno, was rooting for them both because goodness, I just wanted the show to win and they are both amazing! So it was me and my mom watching the broadcast... then my sister joined us for the last five awards. When Idina won, I started clapping and saying things like "I'm so happy for her!!" as I said before llam and of course my sister, Nessa as I call her, starts on me "Oh yeah, cause she's like your best friend and everything!"... She really makes me mad sometimes. Oh well, I had fun despite watching the show with a migraine. And the lost to Avenue Q? I'm from Philly. I'm still reeling from Smarty Jones not winning the Triple Crown. I'll call you when my disappointment/anger/grief over Wicked not getting Best Musical sets in. Edit: Forgot to post the icon i made. Silly Cate. Use it if you want. Credit ceemonster
