The new verse in No One Mourns the Wicked:
(sung)
"Are they born as wicked? Or does it grow as time wears on? Who can say? but this we understand No one mourns the wicked When at last they're dead and gone then at last there's joy throughout the land!"

There's also a small change in "Defying Gravity". Once again Stephen wrote new lyrics to make it work as a solo... but it's 99% the same as what Idina performed without Kristin on the David Letterman Show. The different lyric is: On Letterman: "But I swear, someday I'll be... flying so high defying gravity!" In book: "But I swear, someday I'll be... up in the sky defying gravity!"
Such a minor change, I don't even know why he bothered to change it at all. Did the first lyric bother him so badly? Honestly, I prefer the David Letterman one, I think.

Yeah, those lyrics that were changed in Defying Gravity really messed me up when I was singing through it at voice lessons. My voice teacher was like "That is so not on the CD!" and then we started talking about Wicked, as we always do!

There were a lot of changes; a lot of it had to do with time, and making the songs more smoothly, including the lyrics and how the words came out while being sung. And I had a conversation with some workers about why Wicked Witch of the East wasn't on the CD. A lot of the songs actually don't have too much dialogue in it and if you took out the dialogue of WWotE, the song was about 20-30 seconds long and they decided not to put it on. That's too short to put on a CD; even the reprise of "I'm Not That Girl" is 50 seconds but that's a reprise so it was okay for that to be put on. I hope that helped somewhat.

True...not to mention their paranoia about spoilers.
I think that the extra verse in No Good Deed messed the pacing of the song up, much as I love the lyrics. It kind of makes the song lose energy.

I wish I could hear that song from SF.. I think it was called "Making Good" or something like that? It's supposed to be completely different from any other song. Ah, the times I wished I was a Cali girl.

The Michelle Federer yahoo group has the lyrics for "Making Good" in the files section.
Yeah, those extra words in DG really sound weird to me. I think it slows the song down, even though it sorta says what Glinda says in the dialogue on the soundtrack.
