That's not all that was originally in the show, "Sentimental Man" was completely different too. There's a couple of things in Popular that were changed.... Also the whole "I hope your happy" theme from the last half of Defying Gravity was only on Elphaba's part. There are/were a lot of differnces come to think of it....

At my school our high school choir sung No One Mourns the Wicked and they added that, and I'm not in high school yet, and I noticed the change and I sat there for like five minutes thinking "WTF?" I was so confused, but I like it, it sounded cool.

I still dont get why Stephen Schwartz changed it... or added it... or... wait, why did he do that? It sounds cool, yeah, but did he take something out and put that in?

I think that he did it so that it wouldn't be as repetive. See, there is a big section done right there by Glinda, so he cut out the extra chours. He probably put the different verse there just so there wouldn't be talking. People are going to use it as a vocal book, and he wanted them to be able to sing everything and not have long sections of talking, which would ruin it for vocal purposes.

But then the whole song changes... right? Or am I just a confused person? Oh well, I love the new verse... but what got taken out?

*checks her songbook* Nope. I'd be extremley ticked if the whole song changes, though I've never tried playing that paticiular song. All that is replaces is the intro is shortened so that from the looks of it (the chords are way beyond my ability level!) the first 4 mesures are played, also it just starts with "No one mourns the wicked! No one cries...", Glinda just finishes solo, and then the new verse starts. Then you have after the line "they're dead and gone, then at last there's joy throughout the land!" and it starts "And goodness knows" and finishes like our beloved soundtrack (or Original Broadway cast recoding, whichever you like). So I guess a lot of the song IS changed, but it's mainly so it can be done as a solo. I'm sure it still sounds wonderful!

i hate it when they cut out verses but i suppose they had good reasons it's weird in some cases i know they add verses because there isn't enough... Anya
