So there won't be an excess of threads...Post whatever you want about auditioning, which songs you used, for which shows, which parts, suggestions, criticism, and whatever you want to say about auditioning.
I'm considering auditioning with 'Climbing Uphill' (from The Last 5 Years) for next year's musical, even though it's about 8 or 9 months away. Teehee, I like to plan ahead. Not is it a great song, but it's about auditioning! I loev teh humor. Since we only audition with *part* of a song, I can do the entire beginning, up until "I should have told them I was sick last week..."
But in more recent news, my friend is taking me to a local community theater audition with her! It's auditions for a summer production of Les Mis (teen version, ugh, I know!). The only thing is, I won't be able to actually be in the show in the unlikely chance that I get in...I'm going to be in Paris for 3 weeks! Ironic, no?
But I was thinking, since last year, that playhouse put on a production of 'The Wild Party,' I could audition with something from that. I just have to work on my vibrato, and not singing out of the back of my throat. Any suggestions? -gyps

Hee! Yay L5Y
But just a hint to anyone who might be considering using the "thinking" part of that song...DON'T....it's just a bad idea....if your auditioning for you mom's best friend's husband who's a community director then ok, but otherwise it's just a bad idea. Directors won't think its funny. And even if you go to the Little Unknown Regional Theatre in Alaska and audition, you never know who knows whom or who you'll run into at that audition you really DO want. I'm just sayin...

I'm really in a pickle for my audition for "Tom Saywer". I think it's a relatively newer version and I can't seem to find anything about the songs and the keys and all that jazz. I'm really a belter, so I was thinking something from "The Wild Party", "Wicked", or "Gypsy". But I really have no clue. But I was thinking for my monologue I'd use this really cute one from YAGMCB. But as to the song, I have yet to decide, but auditions are in June.

Chenofan-- I think I just had a friend who was in something like that. Anyway I'd have to say probably something from Gypsy would be your best bet. Everything's Coming Up Roses perhaps...

Well, the Colleen I know has a sexy jazz voice, and should do something like that for the show. No, I don't mean 'All That Jazz.' I mean an authentic, real jazz thing. And if 'All That Jazz' really is authentically jazz-y, please ignore me and my close-minded self. Go for the jazz! And for you Nancy, all I have to say...It's a blackout, holy cow! -gyps

Annie Get Your Gun: Quick Summary Annie is a sharpshooter who falls in love with Frank Butler, another sharpshooter. Soon they offer Annie a job, but they make sure to give her less complicated things to do so that Frank won't get mad. He falls for her but stops when she pulls off a difficult trick that totally showed him up (they were engaged I think). He goes off with somebody else and she is sad. In the end they get together and it's all fine. Lol, quick I know.
Yes- Annie has 2 or 3 sisters that sing Doing What Comes Naturally with her and appear in about 1 or 2 other songs wit her.
Good Audition songs: Well, who do you want to be?

I always seem to have issues finding good audition songs. I have an audition coming up at the end of April for Plays in the Park, for those of you who know what that is. I always pick my song for every audition like the night before, which I know isn't good. Let's see if I can explain my voice to you so you can help. Wellllllll...ummm...I'm nasal, I'm a belter, I have a very large range and a very large belting range, I guess you kinda say I sound like Kristin Chenoweth in Popular, but I AM NOT a soprano. I sound like Idina Menzel in Wizard and I but not entirely. Mezzo or alto belter songs usually work best. Anybody have any suggestions?
