I was really upset thinking I wasn't going to get a part, but I went back at 5 to see the results list, of course the foursome was all adults(who had done shows w/ him before), but I got Zeke, but the farmhands do not play their Oz counterparts, I believe that we also double as Emerald City citizens. But I am glad that I am at least in it, there was about 100 people who tried out & not everyone got a part & this is my first production with them. Our 1st meeting is Monday night, I am going to ask the director if I may be considered for the Scarecrow's understudy, because you never know what may happen, if he does allow me to read the lines for the understudy tryout maybe I can wow him enough to maybe consider switching some roles around. Even Ray Bolger didn't originally get the Scarecrow, so maybe there will be some fortunate twist of fate.

The Royal Shakespeare script is almost identical to the film script, there are only 2 scripts using the MGM score. The Royal Shakespeare which is the closest to the movie available & now sort of the "Official" Oz stage script & then there is the St. Louis Municipal Opera(aka MUNY) script which is book-based, but uses the film score, it is rarely used now that it is highly dated w/ jokes from the 40s etc.
The Witch doesn't have to sing, at the auditions I went to women trying for the Witch just had to cackle.

Wow... that's a FAST cast list, ElphaZach! Sounds like the big parts in the show were a bit pre-cast... *sighs* But those things happen all the time. You did REALLY well anyway, though. I'd say definately find out about the understudy stuff. Dunno about role switching, but if anything should happen to the Scarecrow, you'd be next in line!

My best advice for auditions is to do something that shows off your voice. Maby not something that is well known, but something that you like. If you like what you are singing, you will sing it better. Also, do something that you are comfortable with, not something that you just learned... other wise it may sound new in your voice, and at audditions, you just wanna strut your stuff.... and also this way if you are really nervous, you can just go into auto pilet.
Good luck!

I really have no idea where its from........ i had to sing it for and audittion, and they just mailed me the music. If ur intrested respond and we can pm eachother....... and for whoever needed a mono...... there are many great books of just female monos for all accations, books for comodies, dramas, musicals, clasics..... you name it, they got it! If you need help i could probably help you...... just respond and we;ll find a way to pm eachother! ~*~Good luck to all~*~ Edit: Just learned that the song "New York, New York" is by the guys who you need music by........ just thought that this info might help you out a little bit Oh..... and I was just wondering..... does it get you kinda mad and frustrated when you addition for a show, or anything for that matter, and they (directors/ people in charge) say that a cast list will be emailed to everyone who tried out by the end of the weekend.... and it is now wednesday and still no cast list...... or is it just me? I mean, i get that directors have lives and stuff.... but then they shoulden't say that the list will be out by the end of the weekend!!!! I donno..... just needed to vent a little..... thanks guys!!! Oh! And...... Goodluck to all..... again

So auditioning... High School! Yay. Ugh. It's SO much pressure. I'm doing two monologues, one is from a Neil Simon play the monologue is from someone named Nora, if you have an idea of what it is from, please tell me!
I'm also doing Morse from One Flea Spare by Namoi Wallace.
For vocal (that was just drama above) I am considering doing Little Lamb...
It's so hard to get into HS in NYC, public hs ahh!

My HS musical is Guys and Dolls. I'm a freshman and musical theatre is incredibly popular at my school, so there is hardly any chance that I'll make it. But I don't know what song to sing! I'm working on On My Own (Les Mis) and Falling in Love With Love (Boys From Syracuasse) right now in voice lessons, and I'm thinking of singing On My Own (auditions haven't even been announced yet) but anyone have any alto song suggestions?

Ooo...If you're a Forbidden Broadway fan, they have a song called "Alto's Lement" that's really funny. Or you could sing the song that they took the title from, "Adelaide's Lament" since you're doing "Guys and Dolls." It's really funny too.

Hmm, I'll check that "Alto's Lement" out, thanks! The only thing about Adelaide's Lament is that they would rather you sing a song not from the musical. But thanks so much! I really like Forbidden Broadway!

*Sighs* Well, now I know what its like for those poor directors who have to listen to hundreds of really bad singers and actors/actresses before they find their golden stars. I'm Vice-President of our drama club this year and I have to watch each audition and its been...painful. lol...I definately repect directors more than I used to.

LOL... The chorus teacher at our school is such a dud. It's surprising she even picked out some people who can sing at all. She had these high school students help her and the guy who was doing the singing auditions looked like he was in such pain by the end. LOL
