:: blush:: If you go back to page two of this thread, you'll see where I say I think the award should go to Idina... Oh what a difference a few months makes. I've become more of a fan of Kristin than I was before, and it's allowed me to look at this a little more objectively...
Idina is fantastic. I mean, obviously - have y'all HEARD "Defying Gravity"??? So, yeah, of course, Idina desrves a Tony. She is Elphie when she's on that stage, and she can make you actually have a physical reaction when she sings. She's incredibly powerful. It's a Tony-worthy performance, definitely.
But... is it more deserving that Kristin's Glinda? No. I don't think so, not any more. Kristin has to play such a range in this show; her character has such a journey, and transforms so much. If you've seen her do "No One Mourns the Wicked" and really watched her face, you know how amazing of an actress Kristin is. "Thank Goodness" and the finale are the same. She just breaks your heart. But, honestly, if I had to choose who to give it to, I could choose on one reason alone: consistency. I have NEVER heard Kristin hit a wrong note. She's never missed. Idina... I've heard her hit notes that make you kinda cringe on the inside. Granted, she usually has a good reason - its usually when she's sick. But still. If you're too sick to do your job, stay home. It's something Kristin knows well, and sadly gets a lot of crap for. She knows her body and knows when she has to take a break. Idina performed that show eight times a week with bronchitis. She's less consistent, so therefore... I'm swinging toward Kristin for the Tony now.

You do bring up a lot of good points. And honestly, they are both freakin' amazing performers. Idina can belt like no tomorrow and Kristin's range is incredible. For me, it's such a hard decision. I would NOT like to be a Tony judge person, llam.
Kristin provides all the comedy in this show, no doubt. Though Idina does have a few funny, sarcastic comments as Elphaba... Kristin is just hilarious. Elphaba is much more fierce and intense than Galinda. I feel that you have to put a lot more of yourself into that role. Like how Idina is always trembling during "Defying Gravity" (when she's still on the ground, llam). But Kristin does go through so much more of a character transformation than Idina's character does. And she plays that part, so SO, well.
*has a mental battle with herself*

Kristin is fantastic as Glinda but Idina deserves it so much more, imo. Though, Aly, you make great points, my heart still is with Dee. She's just breathtaking. Her performance gets to me more than Kristin's. I can't explain it really. But when I see "For Good" it's not Kristin who makes me cry, it's Idina. She just has something that touches me. And she, more than anyone, deserves the Tony.
Just my opinion.

I must say I'm being swayed by The Cheno more and more as well. But I'll be happy as long as one of them beats Donna Murphy, llam! Nominations in two sleeps!!! Hooray!!

Awww, Donna's great. Have you seen "Wonderful Town"? ^_^
But yes. Although I'd be more happy if Kristin won, since I have a rather unhealthy obsession with her. *llam*

i still cant exactly decide who i want to win...i wanted Idina to win DESPERATELY before i saw Wicked and then the 1st time i saw it....but then i wasnt sure after i saw in the 2nd time because Kristin puts so much into the show and into the role of Glinda...and she transforms so much..and her range...its so hard to say...and of course shes such a phenomenal actress
But Idina's voice...wow...and her intensity when she becomes "wicked" llam...I just dont know!! I think i may still be with Idina though for the fact that Kristin has a Tony already..and just because I've been a fan of Idina longer
ok now im just not making any sense..llam i dont know...as long as one of them wins i wont be disappointed at all...in fact one of them HAS to win, i dont know what ill do if they dont

I was reading what a bunch of people had said about Idina...how she's *off* sometimes. I can completely understand that. I mean though, if you think about it, Idina has a job to do. And everyone goes to work sick. I know I've been in tons of shows when I've been sick (I usually get sick during tech week cuz of the stress and the lack of sleep) and the show still goes on. I think Idina takes that to heart very well, and she just wants to give everyone the best she can do, which, if she's sick for a week, she's sick. I think it's better than not going at all. I just think of it as overly committed. I don't mean to offend anybody, so sorry if I did. That's just my opinion. (Not that Kristin doesn't deserve it or anything! Of course she does! Llam! *Just had to clear that up!*)

To be honest...I will be happy for anyone who wins this year, really. They're all so talented. Even if Kristin and Idina don't win...I won't be too bitter. Both Donna Murphy and Tonya Pinkins have really good chances, as well as our Wicked ladies. I don't know, I'm rooting for all of them. That being said, I think Idina highly deserves it, for her work ethic alone!

There will be such a big upset on this board I think if neither Idina nor Kristin wins the Tony. Yay for nominations though! That is tomorrow if I'm not mistaken! I'm not getting up for it though, llam!

A few hours away now... yay Tony nominations!! Anyway, it's interesting to read everyone's posts here and then think about what happened with the Outer Critics Circle awards.... everyone is having a very hard time picking between Kristin and Idina. And I think the voters feel the same way. I fear Kristin and Idina will cancel each other out and the voters will swing to Donna Murphy due to the difficult choice between the "Wicked" ladies. But I hope I'm wrong!!

Anyway I personally (as already expressed here I'm sure) want Idina to win for more reasons then I could count. She hasn't one an award before, she is the part, she puts so much into it (I mean hello the girl trembels during Defying Gravity), and a million other things...however, if Kristin wins I'll still be happy...however, I think Donna will probably win, just noticing a trend...

Okay, so I was a doof and peeled myself out of bed at 8:30 this morning after a loooong day of moving out of my dorm yesterday... only one thing could make me get up this early, let me tell you...
TONY NOMINATIONS ARE OUT!!
Okay, so here's the run down: Wicked leads the pack with 10 nominations. The individual nominations are: Best Actress- Kristin Chenoweth Best Actress- Idina Menzel Best Score- Stephen Schwartz Best Book- Winnie Holzman Best Musical Best Scenic Design- Eugene Lee Best Costume Design- Susan Hilferty Best Lighting Design- Kenneth Posner Best Choreography- Wayne Cilento Best Orchestrations- William David Brohn
Disappointed that Joel Grey wasn't nominated for Featured Actor... and that Joe Mantello wasn't nominated for Director (though he was nominated for Assassins, so I suspect the nominators only wanted him to have one show in the category)
