There was an article somewhere on broadway or playbill dot com, where they were saying how making 'Wicked' into a movie was being put into consideration. I got really excited, but then I got a little worried. What will they base the movie on? The musical? Or the book?
If it were up to me, as fantastic as the musical is, there is not enough of it to put into a movie. It's all too perfect live, when you're right there; watching it on a screen will definately not be the same. I would definately want it based on the book, since there is so much in it; a movie could do it so much justice, so many images, scenes, characters, situations - I would love to see the tyranny-ruled Oz captured on film. Some sort of otherworldly Gotham sort of feel, for Emerald City, that is.
And then, a friend of mine went backstage again last time she saw Wicked (last week) and was going to go talk to Idina, but, and I quote this, word for word: "I couldn't talk to Idina because she was busy with this movie producer."
Movie producer? Are they cosidering her to star in the Wicked film? Any film? This is all so exciting, I don' know what to make of all this. I only wish time would go by faster so I could get more information! And yay for Idina for getting into more movies! -gyps

I would LOVE a Wicked movie. Then I wouldn't have to hop on a plane the New York every time I wanted to see it. It would be even better if it had all the original cast members.
But then again, I'd have to agree with you on them creating the "Gotham-type" city from the book. It woulds be much more darker though, not as lighthearted as the musical.

Into the Woods. In my various theatre classes over the past three years I've see that musical twice. They just taped a performance...
Hello? can they please do that for Wicked so that I can get my Fiyeraba fix like daily...oh not even daily...hourly!

I don't mean a video of the musical, although that would be oh so very convenient and wonderful. I mean make Wicked into it's own feature film. -gyps

I totally knew thats what you meant, I was just saying that having a taped performance of the musical would be simply swankified.

Ohhh, I don't know whether I should be incredibly excited or very scared. Now I know how the Chicago fans felt .But, if they do make a movie of the musical version, as long as Idina and Kristin are in it it will be absolutely wonderful! ~~~Amy~~~

Wicked will probably be recorded for the Lincoln Center Library Archives before the original cast leaves but it won't be available for public viewing til after the show closes...as far as a motion picture version, Universal is a producer of the show, so I wouldn't be surprised.

I think they should make it into a movie but a part of me doesn't want them too. Because it will take away from the show, especially with a different cast. Everything will be different, like sets and costumes and just general atmosphere of it! There's no way it would be EXACTLY like the show and that's what I would want from it.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I don't think I want to see a Wicked movie... If based on the book... There is soooo much matieral that would need to be covered in 3 hours or less or else it will garner the same reviews the musical did; i.e. "not faithful enough." I honestly don't think one movie would be simply be enough to capture what the author intended to portrey. I would actually vote for what was proposed a few years back: miniseries that would then be destributed like "Merlin" If based on the musical... I would like to see this ONLY if Idina and Kristin play their respective parts. However, I fear this could result in failure with the sudden outpouring of "movie musicals" that are being talked about: The Producers being the first to pop into my mind. I'm afraid the movie industry will frankly ruin what makes Wicked so special, and part of that is the aspect of live theater, where the audience feels a connection to what is going on. I simply don't believe this is the right time for a full scale movie for this production...at least not yet. Not too sound to hypocritical, but rumors of a bootleg have been circulating...as much as I just protested, I would still love to get my hands on it, llam.
