I'm not that worried about a film, because Chicago was handled so well by Baz Lurhman i thought. It all depends on who is directing it and if its going to be true to the book or the show.

Years ago my wife and I were talking about "if someone turned Wicked into a movie" (we didn't have any idea that 'someone' was turning it into a musical!) and we came up with a few exciting possibilities. Remember, these are for the book, we didn't know anything about b'way yet! I know this thread is pages long, so if this kind of post is a re-tread for you guys, forgive the 'newbie' in me. First, a director. We both thought Tim Burton could do an amazingly dark vision IF he stuck with the book's main tenets. His concepts of the Philosophy Club, the Emerald City, Kiamo Ko, even Shiz would be truly amazing. Can you imagine his visions of Chistery, Dr. Dillamond, and Grommetik? AND the Clock?! Then casting... well, Bette Midler as Morrible (and now come to think of it, onstage as well!) was an immediate thought. Reese Witherspoon would make a fine Galinda. So would the actress who is married to Ben Stiller (she played Marcia Brady in the BB movies)... My wife thinks Christopher Walken would make a fascinating Wizard. I agree. Imagine him bedecked in Burton-designed outfits and so on... For Elphaba, we can't really come up with anything solid. Selma Hayek is WAY too pretty (and not really angular and sharp-featured enough), Demi Moore isn't ugly or pretty enough (too gruff, too curvy and at this point too old... Elphaba wasn't past 38 or so at the end of the story), and the suggestion of Winona Rider caused a few chuckles. An unknown? Fiyero? Ten or twelve years ago, Denzel Washington could have done it nicely. Though Fiyero's skin was brown (w/blue diamond tat's), his features shouldn't really be African-American. A very tanned Johnny Depp could pull it off nicely, as could a similarly-tanned Owen Wilson. Well, enough of my silliness. As far as I know, the only rumors of filming Wicked are of the taping-a-live-performance variety, and that would be splendid no matter what happened! I'd LOVE a generously supplemented, digitally mastered multi-disc DVD of Wicked, with the original cast. IS it too late for that? Fiyercrow

okay, this is really back-tracking, going all the way back to the original post.. so please forgive me. the reason idina menzel was meeting with a movie producer was probably for rent... they're making a movie, starting fairly soon, with most of the original broadway cast. hope that clears up the whole movie producer thing..

Oh, that makes sense ;D DOn't worry about it, I've heard a lot of other people talk about a Wicked movie in the future as well, and with its popularity, I definitly think its a possibility...I still can't wait to see RENT the movie, though, cause I loved the musical...Sorry, random thought there

I think that a movie would be awesome. Those of us who live so far from New York never get to see it. That and last I checked the closest place the tour is coming to me is Dallas. So yeah, I do like the idea as long as they don't lose that certain quality about it that makes everyone love it!

I still want Idina Menzel as Elphaba...She just is Elphaba for me (though when I see her as Maureen in RENT, that's going to be bizarre...lol, and I saw Adam Pascal as Radames in Aida, so that may be bizarre too....Anyways, thats offtopic). And G(a)linda should be Kristin Chenoweth...Ok, I think the whole OBC should be in it (this is if its a musical, of course)

And then, a friend of mine went backstage again last time she saw Wicked (last week) and was going to go talk to Idina, but, and I quote this, word for word: "I couldn't talk to Idina because she was busy with this movie producer." Movie producer? Are they cosidering her to star in the Wicked film? Any film? This is all so exciting, I don' know what to make of all this. I only wish time would go by faster so I could get more information! And yay for Idina for getting into more movies! -gyps She's starring in the Rent movie. That's what that was probably about, not Wicked. Watch "Moulin Rouge"... then come back when you know who Ewan is. *grins* hehe Or watch the new Star Wars movies. He's Obiwan Kenobi.

I'd love a Wicked movie!!!!! I tried searching for any clue at all to one, [Heck, I would've even gone with a link that just said, "They're thinking of making the musical/book into a movie."] but it went down like when I tried searching for the untitled, unploted, apparnatly supposed to be coming out this year Fairly Odd Parents movie. But, what i'm wondering is, how can a movie supposed to be coming out this year when they don't even know the title. I went on the Butch Hartman forum though, and Butch himself said there was gonna be a FOP movie but he couldn't tell us the plot right now. Well.......there's some interesting mews for all FOP fans out there. ;D Anyway, back on topic: Idina deserves the part of Elphaba and Kristin deserves the part of Glinda. So, in way: They derserve each other, those parts and them, they're both so good. ;D They are so good!!!! They're the best!!!!!! Oh, and I would like the movie to be based a little on the musical and book. Like, the songs, for instance, should be in the movie. [Well, the songs that fit, of course]

I be they will make Wicked into a movie these are the things I'm worried about: 1. Set, too flashy! 2. Songs, don't cut any out! They cut out my favorite in Chicago 3. Cast, stick Idina, Kristen, and Norbert. I guess that's it. But I'd definately go see it!

I don't know, I think a book-based movie might work better. The musical is too damn happy, for one, and the movie should be reaching out to a more specific audience than the musical. The "Wizard of Oz" was a family-based movie, and in all due respect, Wicked, with its half-family, half-preteen, half-adult themes might be forgotten faster then say, Super-Babies Eighteen or Garfield. I think the movie shouldn't try to act as a "crowd-pleaser" and at the very least, try to get some point across. Again, meaning no disrespect to musical fans. This is coming from a girl who believed that Elphaba (the character) in the musical was a bit too docile..."Galinda-fied" as one might suggest.
